Default Leafs fill two big holes

*Ahem*

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a wave in CPHL circles today by re-signing two key players for the next three seasons.

Captain Patrice Bergeron will return to the blue and white, taking what we call in the industry as a "Leafs discount" at $9.5M a year. We look forward to having Patrice dominate all 37 games he's healthy for next season.

On the blueline, Toronto has intrigued Brayden McNabb back to the fold with a deal worth $6.25M a season.

This sets the Leafs up nicely with excellent depth down the middle and on the blueline, with enough cap space left over to make a healthy splash in the free agent frenzy to come.

"Both players were crucial in us almost winning three games in the first round last year and, no doubt, will be instrumental in future team failures, despite brilliant individual success," said general manager Rudiger McPhee, in what he thought was an off-the-record interview.

"Why are you recording this?," he added.
