Islanders bolster defense in acquiring de Haan from Florida

The Islanders continue to revamp their defense. In a deal with the Florida Panthers today, the team sent a forward packing in exchange for a top-4 defenseman and a depth forward.

To Florida:
Micheal Ferland

To NYI:
Calvin de Haan
Josh Leivo
$900k

"We're acutely aware that this deal only puts us further over the salary cap, but we feel that we're getting a player of Calvin's pedigree for a bargain of a price," said GM TheScorpion. "We feel that Micheal may suffer a slight decline this season and we're more comfortable with our roster now than we were yesterday."

Yeah overall feel like I get the lesser player in the trade and was selling a bit low on De Haan and buying high on Ferland but I needed to clear up some cap, had added Djoos and Grzelcyk as d-men that I liked, and really could use a forward ranked around 70 to help round out a thin forward group.

Ferland fits the age group I'm looking at and not a lot of teams are looking to add cap right now so trade options were limited.
