Wow, that is a lot of money. Not sure if I dig that.

He's a 26 year old with 55 goals and 111 points over the last two seasons. $5.5m is right in line with what you'd expect somebody with those numbers to get.

From Matt Cane's prediction algorithm:
5 year, AAV of $5,592,341

Only off by $92,341.

I know a bit off-topic but what is the expectation for Hanifin with that algorithm?

1 year at 2.228m
2 years at 2.336m
3 years at 2.804m
4 years at 3.825m
5 years at 4.443m
6 years at 4.440m
7 years at 4.440m

he expects a 2 year contract (44.7% probability).

I'm not sure how his model makes the actual term length predictions, because those have been wonky (see James Neal predicted to sign a 1 year deal?).

Predicted term for Hanifin is 2 years, AAV of $2,336,359.

And the other years / corresponding AAVs:

1: $2,228,334
3: $2,804,477
4: $3,825,041
5: $4,443,989
6: $4,440,428
7: $4,440,364

Again the model seems to glitch a bit considering a 5 year deal is the most expensive prediction, buying 1 and 2 more UFA years actually decreases his AAV by $3,500.

One year -$2,228,334
Two year -$2,336,359
Three year - $2,804,477
Four year - $3,825,041
Five year - $4,443,989
Six year -$4,440,428
Seven year - $4,440,364

Of note, he was pretty significantly off on the Montour predicition. He had it at $2,629,055 for 2 years.

I think it’s a decent deal. I definitely think Niederreiter or Coyle will be moved.

Why? They are 1.7mil under the cap with 13F/8D/2G all signed. Send down one D and they are set. I don't see why they would need to move anyone.

He took advantage of a Parise injury and got paid, nothing the wild could do but I would have liked one more trending up season before handing him that contract. Would also like to see him do something, anything in the playoffs as well.
