Zach Fischer got traded to Spokane for a package of pieces. Good for him to find a team.

Also this makes me think that Yamamoto isn't going back to junior. As far as I remember, he played 1RW for Spokane and that's presumably Fischer's spot now.

Just came back from the Victoria Royals visiting my hometown Pats. I’ve never seen Phillips play before, and all I can say is wow. That kid is a gamer. He made this unreal pass on the 3rd goal that had me laughing

If he can translate to the pro game, he will be great. Reminds me of a Tyler Johnson type player. Slightly smaller, unreal edge work, high IQ, and really good work ethic.

Matthew Phillips put up another Goal in a losing effort last night.

13 GP / 11 G / 17 A / 28 P / +10 / 2.15 points per game average which is 155 points over a full 72 game schedule. He's starting to level off and with World Juniors being a very good chance now with his play here early on I think he should finish around the 110-120 point mark. Next year in the AHL we will get a really good sense of who MP is IMO; really excited about this pick even with heavily tempered expectations ~ I think his ceiling/top end potential is very very high.

Any his size I could see him play his over-age year in junior in an effort to skip the AHL all together. He has skill and no size - AHL is not designed for him.

Player to watch: Glenn Gawdin

11gp 8g 17a 25pts +19

Attended Flames development camp and played for the Flames in Penticton. Former 2015 4th round pick of the Blues.

Would not be surprised if the Flames offer him at least an AHL contract when his season is done. He looked good in Penticton.

It's a good start for the Flames prospect pool for sure.

OHL: Ruzicka is 3rd in OHL scoring.
WHL: Phillips is 4th in WHL scoring
AHL: Janko,Mangiapane, Hathaway are all top 10 in PPG. Plus Andersson and Kylington both have 5 pts in 6 games.

And then Fox hasn't even started playing in the NCAA yet.

Adam Ruzicka with a 1g+1a -1 5sog night in a 6-3 win over the Greyhounds. Highlights
Sarnia is the hottest team in the CHL right now. Have started the season with 13-1-0 in their first 14 games and a +43 goal differential.
While Ruzicka is a significant part, the real star is Jordan Kyrou who the Blues took with the pick they acquired from the Flames in the Brian Elliott trade.

14gp 11g 11a 22pts +13 57.0 FO% 62sog
At time of posting, Ruzicka is 5th in OHL points, tied for 3rd in OHL goals, 1st in PP goals, 4th in +/-

Joly had 0pts -2 in a 6-2 loss. Baie Comeau is currently ranked 15th out of 18th in league standings.
5gp 0g 2a 2pts -5

Zach Fischer had 0pts in a 4-3 SO loss to Red Deer. Fischer seems to be adapting to Spokane well so far.
with Spokane: 5gp 2g 2a 4pts +5

Flames prospects Dube and Valimaki are facing each other in Kelowna tonight. Kelowna won in OT 4-3.
Dube with 1g + 1a +2 2sog. Dube named 1st star
Valimaki 0pts -1 5 sog

Dube 11gp 5g 9a 14pts -3 47.5FO% 35sog
Valimaki 9gp 2g 6a 8pts +3

He's working on a 4 point night right now. I'd like to see the Flames take a flyer on him, looks like he might have a monster year.

Looks like Philips got another 2 goals tonight and first star of the game. up to 15 goals, 17 assists, 34 points in 17 games. Unreal pace. If he keeps it up, Flames won't have had a post draft junior scorer this prolific since baertschi.

Ruzicka got another goal and assist, both on the power play. It seems like he's part of a stacked team in sarnia. 12 goals 12 assists in 15 games. wonder if anyone's watched him play this season. an intriguing pick - he's got the second most shots in the entire ohl and doesn't play much with kyrou, who's almost a full year older

Great post. The highlighted is an excellent reminder as to why it's great to see a prospect's progression and them ripping it up at the CHL level, long term expectations must be tempered.

Sven is on pace for 66 points. Even if he slows down, it's pretty clear he is at minimum a skilled 2nd liner. I would gladly take that from a right handed shot like Phillips.

Sounds like Ruzicka could be yet another 4th round diamond in the rough.

Quote:
“His willingness to compete and win battles and win pucks, to keep plays alive, has just been phenomenal,” praised Sting assistant coach David Legwand, a veteran of 16 NHL seasons and an ideal mentor for a young centre hoping to reach that same level. “If he keeps continuing to compete, the numbers are going to keep coming and the goals are going to keep coming, and it’s going to be great for him.”

Not just for him.

Sting head coach Derian Hatcher — another longtime NHLer — told the CHL’s official website the staff in Sarnia think Ruzicka “was an absolute steal for the Calgary Flames in the fourth round.”

Certainly, that’s what Treliving & Co. are hoping.

“He’s taking advantage of his skills because he’s competing on a real consistent basis, and he’s seeing results because of it,” Treliving said. “He’s learning to do that regularly, and if he can continue, that’s good for him and good for us.”

Does anyone know what Line Ruzicka is on and who is linemates are? I didn't think he was a first line just based on the fact he was a 4th, however, he is doing pretty well now and wouldn't be surprised.

Sarnia likes to spread their offence among their two top lines 5 on 5. Typically so far this season:
Leufvenius/Rees-Rymsha-Kyrou
Salinitiri-Ruzicka-Hinz

They then load up the 1st PP unit with Rymsha, Kyrou, Ruzicka.

I think by default the Kyrou line is the #1 line, but they are pretty close.
