I had read that story differently.
I read that in the late 90's one of our Oberon class submarines, which was the predeccessar to the Victory class, managed to sneak inside of a carrier battlegroup during an excercise and launched a flare near the carrier which denoted a successful and possbily damaging torpedo attack.
There are lots of rumors around Canadian versus American results in war games
Canadian Air Force F-18's regularly have great success against U.S. Air Force and Marine Aviation groups in the annual Maple Flag excercises.
That the Halifax frigates regularly in conjunction with our Aurora (I think) anti submarine aircraft are able to track the second flight Los Angeles attack submaries which are still among the quietest boats out there.
