Might be a hot take, but Wagyu is way over rated IMO.

My Wife and I went to Major Tom last night.

Great views, and sunset.

The beef tartar is exceptional.

Service was great.

All in all and excellent dinner.

I think I have been discouraged from getting wagyu at a restaurant. I’ll try grabbing one next time I am near Great Meats or Master Meats.

I also visited Major Tom last weekend. very cool spot. I agree that the view was exceptional as was the service and food. The crab rolls were amazing as a starter. Surprisingly the snow peas were an exceptional vegetable dish as I never thought anyone could make basic peas taste that good. Pasta was also very tasty. Only complaint, portions could have been a little bigger, but that is to be expected with a restaurant of that type. Prices were actually reasonable except for some of their cocktails. I'm sorry, but $17 for a 2oz cocktail is a little expensive.

Fair comments

My wife and I had:

a cocktail each
8oz glass of wine each
shared crab rolls
shared tartar
split the burger (she loves burgers)
split dessert

I think all in including tip is was $170ish? I can't recall, certainly less than $200.

It was a treat, one we won't do all the time.

The burger at Major Toms is unreal. I swear they fry the french fries in beef tallow. The richness was something I haven't had in many many years.

Last time I went to Major Toms, I held the door open to Scotia Center for a drunk lawyer who was already having a very happy hour around 5PM.

Go up the elevator for him and he says he's the lawyer for the owners and buys us all a round.

Best martinis in the city.

Did you have a reservation, or walk in?

Mug Shotz in Ogden - great service and really good wings. I didnt know but I guess they've won awards for their wings and have like 30 different kinds. I will definitely be back

I've heard "best in Calgary" from quite a few friends, but have never been there. I've been meaning to try it out. Only thing holding us back a few times was planing nights out.

They close pretty early for making a night of it, and there isn't any great bars near by to skip over to after.

My experience is more of hitting Mug Shotz on Wing Wednesdays at lunch time with co workers and trying to see how many wings you can eat and still function back at work. Try to hit every flavor. Before the pandemic, it was our weekly ritual and I still didn't make it all the way through the menu.

I probably wouldn't go there at night with the dive vibe and the rest of the area being industrial wasteland.

It's not that good, and definitely not worth making a night of.

It's more suited to a pregame meal than anything else. I can think of several places with better wings not much further from the Saddledome. It does have proximity going for if you are the type that likes to rush before pick drop.

If I had to describe it in a word, it would be "unremarkable"

I wouldn't say unremarkable. It's unremarkable as a bar - it's a dive in an industrial zone, but some of the unique wing flavors are an experience and it really jazzes up your day if you go for lunch.

Parents coming to town Sunday looking to go for dinner. Steakhouse ish probably is what I’m looking for. What’s the place to go these days? No budget.

For parents (if they're like mine), I'd be going to Hy's or Caesars. Both have excellent service, the traditional / old school dishes and relatively quiet rooms (especially on a Sunday).

Major Tom also isn’t that great. Food has been disappointing every time.
