20 games left in the AHL season. sportsclubstats has the Heat at a 12.8% chance at playoffs.

If the Heat get 12 or more wins in these last 20 games, they will have a ~60% or better chance at playoffs. 11 wins will give about a ~30% chance. 10 wins ~15% chance. 9 wins = ~3%. 8 wins or less is pretty much game over.

Needless to say, start stringing wins together.

The Heat lost 2-1 to Ontario tonight. They pushed hard to tie it up but had no luck. Jankowski was robbed on a quick shot from the low slot but they just couldn't beat the Ontario goalie.

What's left for term on Huska's contract? It's gotta be time for a change soon.

Anybody know when Huska's contract is up?

Edit: I searched, but no idea. He was hired in June 2014. If it was a 'standard 3 year contract' (if these are standard), then I would think his contract is up in this upcoming off-season. Will be interesting to see if the Flames still believe he is the right guy behind the bench, or if they go in a different direction.

Frattin (unassisted, PP)
Mangiapane from Jankowski/Hathaway

2-1 heat

Rittich is 31/32 and there is still a period to go. How does this team get outshot so badly? That just reeks of guys being to simplify ad nauseum but I haven't watched yet. Gonna try and catch the third.

Caroll with a little wraparound after the steal on the forecheck. Vey gets an assist, apparently his skate was hit by the puck somewhere in that sequence.
3-1 heat on just 16 shots.

Anderson with a delay of game penalty, 6-on-4, Jankowski wins the faceoff gets the puck, fires it and gets a SH empty netter from 150 feet!

4-1
4-2 power play goal. wierd sequence of bounces.

San Jose, the top ranked team in the conference with a 15 game point streak, lose in regulation to the Baby Flames. Rittich 43/45

Rittich has some pretty solid numbers this season. I wonder what they do with him contract being up and all this summer .

I doubt he'll be back. Gillies will still be in the AHL and I'm sure the Flames will want Mason McDonald to move up to the AHL as well. McCollum still has one year left on his contract. Schneider might be in the ECHL.

I haven't been following closely to the AHL club, but last I checked we were struggling but firmly in the playoff race. What happened ?

Treliving seemed to be happy about Rittich when he signed him, I think they may keep him around still but definitely hard to say one way or the other.

If we don't bring Rittich in as our NHL back-up next season after he posts a 2.20-GAA and .926-SV% in the AHL, I'll question why we signed him to begin with, and what exactly he had to accomplish in order to earn that next step.

Ideally, the club is probably wanting next season to look something like:

AHL
Gilles
Parsons

ECHL
McDonald
Schneider

So either Rittich graduates, or we cut him loose.

The Flames didn't sign Rittich to meet expansion draft requirements. He's not even eligible for selection and doesn't have to be protected or exposed. He's exempt.

They signed McCollum for that.

As long as Treliving is around I would expect to see Huska coaching in Stockton. Treliving loves him.

Yeah there is a log jamb but I can't see handing the job to Rittich or cutting him loose. Deals can be made this summer. I agree he should get a shot at the Flames backup job though.
