Every year Telus prices go up. What once felt like a bargain is now a gouge. If I hadn't made the fatal mistake of adopting my telus email account as my primary I would definitely switch

having an @telus.net email address is a very very poor reason to be locked into a $1XX a month gouge. (I wonder if some people are still using AOL dial-up for that reason...)
Get a gmail address right now, get everyone updated with your new address, and then you can switch in a few months.

Are you still happy with it? I just got telus installed last friday and I find that my house (only 1500sq ft) has some dead zones. Has it improved your connection at all?
|
Ya, actually i'm seeing quite a bit of improvement 2 floors up. it's still not the full speeds, but its so much better. once I move the new router even further away from the electrical panel i should be seeing even more improvements. definitely worth it and really easy to set up.

So I'm thinking of switching to Optik, but the only Internet option in my area is 15. Am I going to be hating the internet while watching TV/Recording a show?

Such a pain because I thought it was my hdmi cord at first.. then my soundbar.. then my tv.. only to rule those all out and settle on it being the box. Seeing as it happens upstairs and downstairs... I don't think its the actual cable box itself... good lord I have no idea. It really grinds my gears

Yea i have gotten that occasionally, but actually not recently..
i have to unplug the cable box and re-initialize it, but just unplugging it then plugging it right back in works for me. Not sure what it is, I think it's just the HDMI part of the system - I have to turn the TV on then the pvr.

No, the internet speeds arent effected by the TV service.

I'm sorry but the internet speeds are effected by TV service, and was even told that by the tech who installed my services that they do affect the speeds.
Also running speedtest when watching HD tv feeds / have recordings completely back it up as well.
I lose about 6MB/s when all 3 HD feeds are in use, 1 HD feed usually doesn't impact me more than 1 or 2 MB/s, but 2 will always knock my down at least 3 MB/s.

Question for you guys/gals: My mom is thinking about getting optik, but her area only allows her to get 15mbs internet. Can you only watch 1 HD channel at a time then?
I guess she's moving all her services to shaw
edit: i guess so..well that sucks

I'm having a nightmare of a time with my TV service ever since I upgraded to 50mbps (did not have any issues with the 15mbps or 25mbps service). I will have my third tech visit today (should be my fourth because one tech no showed) to see if they can resolve a "buffering" issue. Basically a show will freeze for a few seconds...then catch up but the picture will be all pixelated and then the sound will come back on and then finally the show is back to normal. Happens probably 7 to 8 times an hour. A tech came yesterday and looked at the install and said it was wrong so he changed something. Now, in addition to the "buffering", the TV sometimes goes to the "you have no TV signal" screen. So the last two techs have said that the guy that did the original install did it wrong and then they change something but it never gets fixed. Can't wait to see if tech #3 says the install is wrong.

Make sure you are having an actual Telus tech come out and not a contractor. In my experience, the Telus guys are 1000x better than the weekend contractors.

LOL this guy just undid everything that the guy did yesterday. This guy is an animal though. He is being extremely thorough, running diagnostics, replacing parts one by one. He is now off to the the panel to replace the port there. If that doesn't fix it I will have to downgrade to 25 as it looks like the 2nd pair is no good (underground most likely).

Kudos to Telus...the volume down button on my Telus remote stopped working and within 5 minutes of their live chat, had a new one being mailed to me. Pretty effortless and impressive.

I like that mailed option.
Both Shaw and Rogers (on East Coast) make you come into retail or book a tech to come out to replace a remote.
