Cap crunch or not, I don't really see how it can be correct to trade your 25yo PPG RFA second-leading scorer from a 113 pt team for futures. Baffling.

Last 3 seasons he has 179pts in 196gp, or 0.91ppg.
For reference,
Tkachuk - 208pts in 207gp - 1ppg
Forsberg - 164pts in 171gp and - 0.96ppg
$7.9M aav seems pretty fair and tbh gives a pretty good baseline for Tkachuk as well. Basically that puts Tkachuk right at $9M or so.

Yup, their cap is effectively nearly $13 million less than everyone else next season and nearly $15 million less the following two seasons.

And his 85 points was with little PP time.

@KevinWeekes
Per @RussoHockey who had the @mnwild Trade of Fiala to @LAKings first- LAK aren’t done, they have the deepest prospect pool in The National.

Not sure I would be in a hurry to accelerate things if I was the Kings. Better off filling the roster with young cheap talent than trading a lot of it for higher paid players. This trade is fine because they got a player that's still in his prime but I'm interested to see what other moves they have in mind.

Yeah if you look at 5v5 points the last three season he jumps from 32nd to 21st - so very effective at 5v5.
And he's done it away from Kaprizov as well. They've only played 89 minutes together at 5v5 over the last three seasons.
So it's not like he's just a product of Kaprizov - he's effective at driving his own offense too. Last year his most common linemates at 5v5 were Frederick Gaudreau and Matt Boldy.

Kopitar is 35, Doughty 32, Quick 36. 5 more years of paying Doughty 11M with a limited NTC. They're clearly aiming to try and win again with this core.
Recent high 1st round picks in Byfield, Clarke, Turcotte, will be able to supplement them on cheaper contracts, but a mid 1st round pick in 2022 isn't likely to contribute to the team until at least Kopitar and Quick are gone. So I get it. Probably better chance of winning long-term by continuing to rebuild and moving Kopitar, Doughty and Quick for huge ransoms but no teams ever do that without being forced due to ownership bankruptcy issues pretty much.

The Kings have a very deep prospect pool and a plethora of RHD-ready prospects. This is a fantastic trade for them.

EvolvingHockey actually has him signing for 0.8 million less than their most likely amount.

I was thinking Fiala might be a Plan B if they lose Gaudreau. Not so sure we have the assets to swing that type of deal though. Decent player.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Four years in Nashville and then four years in Minnesota. Lots of players move around in less time.

So, Andrew Mangiapane's extension? Big dollars.
Andrew Mangiapane: 35 goals, 20 assists, 55 points, +20, ATOI: 15:44
Kevin Fiala: 33 goals, 52 assists, 85 points, +23, ATOI: 17:39
Mangiapane sees that 2 minutes difference per night in ice time and is saying "you can pay me like Fiala, or I'm taking a one year deal until free agency where someone else will easily project out what I'd do with 3 more minutes of ice per night"
*edit error on Mang's TOI

For some reason I always pegged him as older and approaching UFA. Good pickup, though I assume LAK will end up giving him whatever contract he wants. You don’t spend assets just to have a tough negotiation.

Fiala has had a lot more of a track record as far as points. Mangiapane had one breakthrough year, even though it looks good. I still think the deals for Rust, Fabbri, McCann, Tuch (with inflation) are closer.

I don't think so, not with Mangiapane's ATOI.
Rust: 18:46 ATOI, 58 points in 60 games.
McCann: 16:08 ATOI, 50 points in 74 games.
Tuch: 18:25 ATOI, 38 points in 50 games.
Fabbri: 17:20 ATOI, 30 points in 56 games.
Fiala: 17:39 TOI, 85 points in 82 games.
Mangiapane: 15:44 ATOI, 55 points in 82 games.
I'm not arguing that Mang deserves a contract like this *today*, but that Mang has no reason to sign a long-term deal today when his minutes are being suppressed by playing behind the best LW in the league. If we're going to lock up Mang long-term it's going to have to be closer to Fiala rather than McCann, otherwise Mang will just wait until free agency.
