would luv to see that second line, we need Bennett to break out badly!

Line A acts much as it did last year with the clear upgrade of moving Neal in and Ferland out. Gaudreau and Monahan take a step forward with Neal being able to finish with a higher level of consistency than Ferly could.

Line B:
Bennett - Lindholm - Tkachuk

Line B acts a 2nd scoring line. Lindholm is our 2nd best face-off guy, and should play centre. Tkachuk playing on his off-wing in a more offensive role will work well. Bennett takes a step forward thanks to getting an opportunity with a new coach and the best line mates he's had in the NHL.

Line C:
Frolik - Backlund - Foo

Line C features Backs and Frolik continuing to act in a defensive role with Foo beating out Eatbread and Dube for the roster spot. Backs and Frolik have shown they can work with youth, and Foo being mentored by these two is a good way to start his NHL career.

Line D:
Jankowski - Ryan - Czarnik

Line D gives Jankowski and Ryan the ability to take face-offs on their strong sides while allowing Jankowski some breathing room as Ryan does the heavy lifting as the centre on the line. Czarnik adds offence to the line and makes this a very effective 5v5 line.

13th - 14th Forwards:
Lazar - Hathaway

Pairing A:
Giordano - Brodie

Pairing B:
Hanifin - Hamonic

Pairing C:
Kulak - Stone

Extra Defenceman:
Prout

Goalie A:
Smith

Goalie B:
Gillies

PP1:
Lindholm
Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Giordano

PP2:
Tkachuk
Czarnik - Ryan - Bennett/Jankowski/Backlund
Hanifin

PK1:
Backlund - Frolik
Giordano - Brodie

PK2:
Lindholm - Tkachuk
Hanifin - Hamonic

Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington, Mangiapane, Dube, Rittich, Parsons, Gawdin, Phillips, Shinkaruk, Klimchuk help build the Heat into a Calder Cup caliber team.

I don't. If you are rolling Janko and Bennett with 4th line minutes you might as well trade them.

I think you'll see 5v5 minutes spread out pretty evenly between the 4 forward lines, with the higher end players getting their extra minutes during special teams.

The problem with these units is the first one is all left shot players and the second unit has three right hand shots. I think the coaches are gonna want at least one right shot player on the first unit.

I'd go with

Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk-Lindholm-Gio

Basically all of our top offensive players. Lindholm for the right shot and defensive conscience as he'll have to act as a defenseman after turnovers. Also gives the PP unit two guys who can take draws and you can have Monahan take his strong side while Lindholm takes his strong side draws. Both Tkachuk and Lindholm can crash the net, screen the goalie or pickup rebounds. All 5 players are strong playmakers and passers and all 5 can finish. Seems like a truly elite unit.

Backlund/Jankowski/Bennett-Ryan-Czarnik-Neal-Hanifin

Again the unit has multiple centremen who can take draws. Ryan on his strong side and Backlund/Janko/Bennett can take draws on the other. Got a nice mix of right and left shots. Probably have to be Bennett set up in front of the goalie or maybe Janko or Neal. There's like 6 forwards competing for the 4 forward spots on the 2nd unit. Who would've thought the Flames could be 10 forwards deep in PP options ahead of Brouwer after the GG powerplay of early last year?

This is a bonafide top six. with a bonafide 3rd line. No holes as far as I can see.

How camp shakes down the 4th line will be the real test.

But man I am excited at this FW grouping now. I was over the moon when we got Lindholm. adding Neal has put me in some sort of sensory overload.

EDIT: this also means there are no excuses for this coaching staff. I have faith in ward and Peters. More so than Cameron and Gully. I'd probably say infinitely more.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Bennett
Jankowski- Backlund - Frolik
Mangiapane/Foo - Ryan - Czarnik
Brouwer - Hathaway

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak - Stone
Prout/Andersson

Smith
Rittich

IMHO Bennett needs to be on the 2nd line with high end players (Maybe 1st line with Neal on 2nd?). Jankowski with Backlund and Frolik gives a chance to play more minutes while being protected if the 2 Mike’s can continue their defensive strength together. 4th line’s up for grabs with many contenders, including Brouwer (ugh).

Not sure how the 3rd D pairing will end up... will we move Stone? And let’s hope Rittich can continue to grow and take heat off Smith.

Or show him that he is appreciated, valued and give him an opportunity. I'm not saying he has to stay there. The more they make him feel part of the team and top 6 the better. Maybe that will get him feeling it.

Now, now, Han. You might want to quit while you're ahead.

Is Steve Mason a guy the Flames could look at to shore up the goaltending? He should come cheap.
