How is Kenney the best that party could get? Good lord.

I think all the UCP would have to do to get reelected is literally just show up. Don't run any platforms, don't talk to anyone, don't do anything. All you have to do is just say 'we're the conservatives' and they may very well get elected again. Instead this guy looks like a moron and probably is giving the NDP a great shot at re-election.

Hey UCP... get out of your own way? You guys are so brutal.

Oh yeah and if the NDP were smart they should not run any 'attack' ads and instead just run ads on what you intend to do to make the province better.

Some of Kenney's promises made to car dealers, my thoughts in italic:

  1. Immediately scrap the provincial carbon tax and join the coalition of Conservative provincial governments that are challenging the federal tax in court( The Feds will just impose one-no gain here)
  2. Roll back the modest personal tax increases imposed by the NDP on wealthy Albertans(Hurts 99% of Albertans)
  3. Freeze minimum wages “until other provinces catch up” and consider imposing lower differential minimums for young workers(good plan)
  4. Cancel all recent changes to the Labour Code, Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Workers Compensation Board – such as provisions that give parents time off to nurse a gravely ill child or spouses to escape domestic violence(eh? Don't know enough about this, but sounds like a petty move)
  5. Roll back consumer protections to “rebalance the playing field” between dealers and car buyers, plus handing regulatory enforcement of car sales back from the government to the dealers themselves(fox/henhouse?)
  6. Ban the importation of right-hand-drive vehicles from Asia(pandering!)

The RHD cars is perplexing to me. It's an affordable option for people who want a unique car at a fair price, and it's not hurting the Canadian automotive industry (RHD cars must be at least 15 years old before importing).

I know a few RHD car owners, and most of them are the "NDP are socialist bastards" types. Looking forward to their reactions when Kenney makes their toys illegal to drive on Alberta roads.

Care to explain how rolling back personal tax increases hurts 99% of Albertan's?

Well if you lower taxes on the top 1% of earners you have to cut programs, increase debt or raise taxes elsewhere which harms everyone who didn't get the tax cut?

Seems pretty straight forward

There have been a few positive and we'll received moves that the current gov't has made, such as #2 and #4. What is Kenny's reasoning for repealing them?

Why wouldn't he just keep the beneficial things that a conservative gov't could never get away with imposing?

This is an assumption that services have increased or become better since the NDP raised taxes.

It makes no such assumption.

You always have a choice between a general tax cut across all brackets, raising the personal exemption or cutting taxes for the highest bracket. The method and distribution of taxation in completely independent from spending.

Regardless of found efficiencies in government to reduce spending without cutting services or the cutting of unneeded services going back to a flat tax system hurts the majority of Albertans.

Well, this is a pitch to car dealers for fundraising. So #2 would probably help them, since I'd assume most of them are high earners. #4 must also be beneficial tot hem in some way. This is just pandering to the guy with the cheque book. It ha nothing to do with improving Alberta.

Yeah, i’d fear this would be the answer some are still clinging to, but I would wonder how someone thinks lowering a tax to benefit 1% of Albertans does anything good for the 99% of us. History hasn’t shown us anything positive in that regard.

UCP not looking good on a few of those promises. Hopefully it’s just pandering and not a reflection of their bigger vision.

it is notable that Trussler said

"In the future, it would be appreciated if those requesting an investigation did not post the request to social media before I have the courtesy of receiving the request"

"As well, given that Alberta is having a general election within the next year, I want to make it clear that I do not want members filing complaints against other members for the purpose of scoring political points.”

Are you just gonna post UCP advertising materials here for the next 8 months every day?

As if 90% of voters haven't made up their minds, and 90% of media isn't jam packed with the hot takes from both parties.

That's fine, and if people want to post some advertising and actually discuss something about it, well that's fine too. But if you just pop in here to drop a piece of advertising for any of the parties, I'm pretty sure you owe Bingo some money.

The items were for discussion. Maybe discuss it instead of taking shots at me.

Almost like there should be a specific UCP thread an a specific NDP thread, then people can post echo chamber social media to each other all day long.
