vegas will have to clear cap...i'd think they would trade Fleury + pick or prospect with no salary retained for a low pick...

Darn. Hopefully who ever they have to trade out to make this work, hurts them in the long run.

Has Jim Benning ever fleeced anyone other than Canucks ownership?

Meh, this is no different than NYR in the east. Its nice to know the wealth is being shared and its not just New York signing top players each year.

Players are begging to play there, taxes, geography...Its the easiest GM job in the league

You sound a bit bitter about this signing.

Yeah, much better in our division for sure.
3 years in the league
2 division titles
2 conference finals
1 cup finals
Just upgraded from schmidt to Petro and MAF to Lehner
Can't wait for Seattle to get here too.
Luckily Vegas wont have to lose any players to the Kraken though amirite?

Oh good, another thread where people whine and complain about the expansion rules.
It’s a free agent signing!

The rich get richer.
Mark Stone and now Pietrangelo.
I'm really starting to ####ing hate Vegas.

The good news is that the Panthers get a very good all around defenseman in Nate Schmidt out of this. A little silver lining for me I guess.

Yep.
The whole thing is an absolute farce.
Been a loyal Flames fan for 40 years and now I get to watch the new expansion team have more success in 3 seasons than the Flames have had in 30 years.
Pretty easy to sign top UFAs when you're born a contender.

Blowing their brains out on these big contracts may well be the beginning of the decline for Vegas.

Edit - What's shrewd about this? Pietro is good, but it's not putting them over the top. They can't score. Pietrangelo isn't fixing that. He's more wasted cap-space to keep a window open another year or two before the cap problems crumble their depth.

Top 10 in the NHL last season.
They ran into a hot G after an unplanned 3 month layoff in the post season in the conference finals. Thats really all that happened.
This guy certainly makes that team a whole lot better as far as slotting players...that much is for sure.

The rich get richer. At least Vegas is forced to unload a quality defender like Schmidt and isn’t just adding Pietro.

Expansion draft was made easier by the other GM's.
Columbus protected Wennberg, who they bought out 3 years later and gave Vegas a 1st round pick so that they would pick Karlsson over Josh Anderson
Panthers traded Smith for a 4th rounder and the commitment that Vegas pick Marchessault so that they could keep a stud like Petrovic
The Ducks gave them Shea Theodore just so they would not take the great Josh Manson
Basically their entire first line in their first two years and their best defenceman over their franchise history were given to them because of terrible moves by other GM's, and they got additional assets as well.
Their franchise history is significantly different if they get Petrovic, Manson and Anderson instead of Marchessault, Smith, Karlsson, Theodore and a 1st round pick.
