I think the Blues take out the Avs. The Avalanche are the only team to face very little adversity along with the worst goaltending duo in the playoffs, and I think that will ultimately be their downfall. The Blues are in full playoff mode against a team with too much rest and some possible overconfidence. Both teams have good playoff experience, but the Blues have a group that have gone the entire way. If I had money to bet, I'd probably place it on the Blues even though this should be an incredibly close series.

It's proven that teams that sweep in the first round have less than a 50% chance of winning the second round (I would love to see some actual stats since nothing I looked at broke the stats down by round, but I've also read that a round one sweep is the worst). Sweeps do become more valuable once a team is deeper into the playoffs, due to the value of healing up, while also being fully immersed in a playoff run, but I think this sweep shoots the Avs in the feet.

Blues in 6. Blues take games 1, 3, 4, and 6

Avs are 2nd round chokers, similar to how the Sharks were for a while. Guaranteed to stomp through the first round, but never able to get over the hump afterwards. I guess this years version of the Avs is their best version yet in the Mackinnon era. But the hockey gods have a way of making teams humble. Blues are a tough out, for sure.

I think the Blues take this in 6.

Game 1 to the Avs.

They were all over them.

Wow, 54 shots by the Avs and it still went to OT? Binnington must have been playing like Ottinger. He finished with a .944 save percentage and still lost. The Avs also doubled up the Blues in shots. Sounds familiar.

8 minutes of OT, SOG were 13-0 for the Avs. That's something.

Blues just need one in Colorado. Look and the tape and regroup.

Blues got screwed. Had a clear 2 on 0 half way through the 3rd and the Av player clamped down hard on the Blues player's stick and there was no call. Hate when those blatant penalties go uncalled on purpose.

Lets say Flames win and Avs win. Cale Makar would have me ####ting my pants.

I will therefore not root for either team and hope a cosmic event eliminates them both.

Wasn't too sure how this series was going to go at the start, but after watching game 1 I'll say Avs in 5. Last night's OT wasn't a matter of who will win, but how long Binnington could keep the Blues in it. He might have enough magic up his sleeves to outright steal a game, but otherwise it will be domination

This series could be long and tough on both teams. Potential to be a classic based on the first two games.

Oops.

I don't much like the Blues' chances of winning, but I think they can make a long series of it. Remember, the two teams were only 10 points apart in the regular season, and three wins apart in games decided 5-on-5. (Colorado 46-19, St. Louis 43-22.) The series isn't the mismatch some people are making it out to be.

The Blues did a much better job shutting down the Avalanche attack in the final period after they got the lead. The Avs had 3 high danger chances against all night and only 13 scoring chances with 8 of those coming in the first period. Outstanding defence. That’s their championship pedigree coming through.

They got the job done and took one in Colorado and now we see if the Avalanche can respond and take one in St Louis.

Last night was a great example of how momentum doesn't continue into the next game. COL looked untouchable in game 1, with a completely dominant win. Then STL comes out in game 2 and shuts them down.

That's why it is 4 out of 7. Each game is its own victory. First team to earn 4 victories, moves on.

Calgary would have to elevate their game in a real hurry to beat either the Blues or Avs right now.

Central is out here making the Pacific division look like amateur hour.

With Binnington out, the chances of a long series or a Blues win are looking quite a bit worse.

Agreed. They were still in it until the end of that game and Kuemper had some fortune on some saves. I don’t think Husso cost them the game, but he definitely needs to step up and be a difference maker.
