Icon59 Spector: Edmonton now the ‘City of Losers’

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/m...os-struggling/

Now that Labour Day is over, time to start the trash talking. While I normally dislike Spector, I like the title.

They've always been the City of Losers to me.

Hey Edmonton has a large number of sports teams performing poorly.

But then drawn out over an entire article.

What they are going through in Edmonton is something Calgary fans can't lay claim to as when the Flames stink the Stamps have been great and the Flames were pretty successful in the 80's when the Stamps went though the SOS campaign. It's been almost a decade of futility for both Edmonton franchises side by side and both organizations in that time have hit franchise lowpoints. City of losers indeed.

Spector ran the exact style of article about five years ago, calling Edmonton the City of Losers then. Only difference is he didn't have the Oil Kings to refer to as a lone bright spot back then.

Basically he's stirring the pot on Sportsnet to get attention. The new site is horrible, maybe they're seeing less traffic as a result.

Funny though - same story overall. Oilers and Eskimos skimming the bottom of their respective leagues still.

The city of Edmonton is bad at having successful sports franchises.

Best part is when he starts working his way through the list of all of the different champions, #3 on the list is.....

"Edmonton trained the world’s finest figure skaters, held wildly successful championships in various different sports, and generally had more than its fair share of winning and success."

A spectacular river valley!

(I know, it's not really Edmonton bashing, but they need something to pride themselves on besides that stupidly huge mall)

Is there a city in the world that is not in a river valley? They act like they are the only one.
