Default I知 hosting a scavenger hunt - need item ideas!

I am hosting a scavenger hunt for my family (ages 4-70) on Sunday in Drumheller.

I am looking for ideas on what to put on the list.

It will be a two hour timed event.

We will have a vehicle for each team. Items can be physical or photo proof.

I figured CP might just be an excellent resource.

This is what I have so far:

A softball team
License plate with 537
A roughriders hat
Canada flag tattoo
Calvin pissing on anything sticker
Truck balls
A tandem bicycle
Prickly pear cactus
Team photo on a slide at playground (everyone must be in photo)
Canadian tire money

I will also have mandatories like the dinosaur, hoodoos, and the museum.

What have you got?

Omgomgomg who do I have to marry to get in on this? I'm so into drumheller scavenger hunts.

Ok I'm going to come back when I can think straight. But maybe if you have little kids along it might be fun to "plant" a little dinosaur bone when you're poking around the badlands a bit. You can buy them for about 7 bucks at the rock shop. Kids will freak out.

Maybe a picture of a coal mine car from the Atlas Coal Mine. A riddle question about why there are locks on the suspension bridge. The name of the abandoned store in Dorothy. A pic of the grain elevator there. How many people can fit in the mini church? An old car...the oldest car pic wins something. How many bridges on the way to Rose Deer.

I gotta think this through. Give me a minute.

You could get the kids to find some coal or iron ore, lots of that laying around. There are dinosaur statues all over town. You could have them get a picture of the Trachodon. Or one of the other species, but specific so they have to look for the right one. What's playing at the Napier theatre? It's actually a cool old building inside. Proof your team ate a mammoth burger at Bernie's. A ticket from the Bleriot Ferry. It's actually handy to get from one side to the other anyway.Ummm...still thinking.

These are perfect, I was really hoping someone with local knowledge would chime in!

Perhaps a picture in front of the mayors house?

I don't know about the mayor's house. But you could take a pic in front of my grandma's house. It's right next to my grandpa's house. She booted him out in 1947 cause he had a mistress but he still loved her so he bought the house next door. To the day he died in 2002 she made him book an appointment with her if he wanted to come over and visit...which he did every day.

You could have them take a picture at a famous movie location...

They're pretty easy to find.

I could show you some really off the grid stuff on Saturday when I go out to grab my dad's bed frame. When I was a kid he kicked me and my brothers out on a gravel road cause we were being super annoying. We decided to go across the prairie back to our house and we found this weird concrete bomb shelter. It still has the big steel door. Some crazy guy in the 1940's was certain the Germans were just over the next hill so he built it but abandoned it shortly after. It had two six inch thick concrete walls with rocks in between. There's also a first nation camp site that no one has ever touched. I'm not sure anyone knows it's there. Probably shouldn't bring people there though.

The trip to Dorothy is worth it. They restored two old churches and it's just like being at heritage park. There's a confessional booth in one. Too bad my grandpa didn't know about it. The old store is mind blowing too. There are still jeans on the shelves from when it closed in 1979.

I think that's all I can think of. Have a fun weekend.

I don't know the area that well but:

Do the YMCA in front of a YMCA
Waddle like a duck through a busy cross walk

It's been a while since I did one of these, the only other thing I can remember was "ride a kids bike in front of them". That was literally the last thing on our list, we had given up and on the way back to base, we say a kid on a random back access road riding his bike. Pulled over and got a photo with him with one of us on the bike.

These always make for great stories. Hope that helps and have fun.

Take $100,000.00 and hide it in a local place within the city.

Sell maps and clues online to as many people as possible.

One side trip out of town could be an ice cream at asteroid and a shot of a hoodoo.

If you want to make it a bit trickier, don't say "ice cream at asteroid" call them and pick one of their specialty flavors. They all have amusing Canadiana type names "moose dropping ice cream" type stuff.

Haha - haven’t heard that one before, it does remind me of an Australian drop bear though.
