Default Fun solo activities in Calgary?

I've been working all summer with very few days off. However, since quitting one of my jobs last week, I'm finding myself with substantially more free time, particularly during weekdays.

After spending a year in Ottawa, I've found myself staggeringly out-of-touch with Calgary. I have no idea what to do with myself and, as a result, I've become rather bored. One can only go to Chinook mall so many times.

Any suggestions for things to do? My friends are all working during the day so it's not like I can just call somebody up. I'm at quite a loss.

What sort of things do you like doing?

There's meetup groups for various activities/hobbies. Rec room for arcade fun. Race room if you want to try some pro racing sims.

I'm open to trying new things. I enjoy games of all sorts, physical activity (although not as much as usual because I'm still trying to recover from working two labour-intensive jobs simultaneously). Just haven't found a niche outside of work yet this summer.

Video games... I suppose, but I'm looking for something a little more structured and out of the house.

Well, you've got the mall covered. That's kinda my thing. Gym? Hike? I'm bad at this too.

At first I thought this said "...and a 3D manatee." What a sensory experience.

I guess it's legal but I just don't have a craving for weed, especially not alone. Maybe I'm a dork

I guess watching more movies is an option

I think you might really like hiking. Within a few hours of getting off your couch you could be standing on the top of a fairly substantial peak in the rockies and feeling like you kind of have the world beat... everybody else is working and you've got the view to yourself. And it's a pretty recognizable accomplishment. You can also grab a dog from the Humane Society and take him/her for a mountain hike. That's always a nice feeling.

Rock Climbing is an amazing activity too. You can learn fairly quickly at a climbing gym. And you can accomplish a lot by yourself too. There's nothing like bouldering alone in the mountains. It gives you a reason to search out destinations. It quickly builds into the kind of thing that becomes a lifestyle. I've traveled all over with the one purpose of finding rocks to climb. You meet people, you find climbing partners. You free solo El Cap. Whatever. It's a great addition to life.

Photography from what I gather is similar. You can use photography as an excuse to travel to some pretty cool places. I still don't see the point if there's no dog in the picture. But some people do. There's also lots of clubs you can join.

If you're interested learn how to day trade. It's all I do and takes up a few hours of the day at least. You kind of feel like you're doing something productive. It's something that can change your life as well. I like not worrying about macro issues in the economy and not wondering about a job.

Oh, you could get a girlfriend(or boyfriend), that will kill lots of time, if you do it right! Perhaps some of our more mature forumers have a daughter(or son!) who may be interested!

Not doing something doesn’t make you a dork. Do you.

That’s just what I would do haha.

Tons of amazing hikes available close to the city though. That’s a good suggestion for daytime fun.

Does Photon need to build a dating app? Like Farmers Only, but for CP?

I actually study photography as part of my degree! But thanks for all the suggestions, will look into all this. Day trading... can you elaborate on that a bit?
