Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said at 6:30 a.m. that two people were rescued from the water so far.
One person was taken to a trauma center in very serious condition, the other declined medical treatment. Wallace said officials believe as many as seven people may be unaccounted for preliminarily.

Sounds like, or looks like the ship lost power twice and couldnt correct in time.

This is sad. That bridge went down so quick. Can't take life for granted. Hopefully everyone is found and recovers.

That really is terrifying.

Likely something that cannot even be imagined in possible disaster plans....and the way that thing folds is amazing.

Clearly the container ship was in a lot of trouble for some reason (fire in the engine room maybe?) and the abruptness of its turn into the bridge almost seems impossible.

It was hard to tell how many vehicles were on the bridge, though time of night should have seen negligible numbers.

Just a really unfortunate series of events.

Twitter is a cess pool. A much too significant part of our population believes that literally everything is orchestrated. It's disgusting.

This is one of my worst nightmares. I have had dreams about being on a bridge when it collapsed. Probably due to repeated viewings of the film of Tacoma Narrows failing as a kid, even though nobody was on that bridge when it collapsed.

Saw this on Reddit at around 1am this morning, crazy video.

Major disruption for traffic for a long time, and major disruption to the port of Baltimore until the debris can be cleaned up out of the river.

The other crossings on the maps a already overbusy tunnels:

Thank titballs this happened at 1:30AM and not rush hour, not that it’s any help to those who passed away but the deaths would have been an order of magnitude higher if the bridge was gridlocked

Yeah, it also sounds like with the mayday and alert that the ship gave, they were able to stop some cars from going onto the bridge. The visuals are crazy.

Considering the discussion in the other thread, the Engineers aren't going to run out of steel for their precious pinky rings for quite some time methinks.

That video is wild. Workers apparently on the bridge fixing potholes as well.

Oh man....how much would that suck? I dont even know if thats better or not? Maybe not being trapped in a car might have been a good thing?

"Just fillin' potholes in the bridge...ohmygod! AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!"

And I hate to be cynical...(<-no I don't) but bridges are notoriously inanimate.

A bunch of guys put them up and once they're up they dont tend to move around a lot. Once they're there....you sort of know where they're going to be at.

Thats like driving into the Empire State Building.

"Who put that there?? Since when??"

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how quickly people default to that. The options right now are a) inside job by the US government b) attack by Russia c) attack by China. Lol. And then of course we'll have other crazies claiming that one option is crazy, but for the other ones they "could totally see!1!".

Such a terrible incident and feel terrible for all the victims. I think last I read was 40 or so missing? Can't even imagine.
