Honestly thought he would be the Seattle coach but I'm starting to wonder about Brind'Amour there. Anyway great hire for the Rangers.

^ and Darryl wasn't?
Coaching matters. Pay for a quality coach the first time so you don't end up paying for 2 or 3 coaches along with a quality one years down the road.

In his first three coaching stops he's been fired during the 3rd season. Will he make it through three full seasons with the Rangers?

If you believe Eric Francis (I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t) Sutter came back to Calgary on a very discounted rate. Basically he really wanted the job

For on a budget, Darryl is incredible value.
However, if you're smart, you go back in time and trade his and Ward's salaries for a guy like Gallant from the outset.
But we handcuff ourselves with these half measures.
I'll never understand under the radar inexperienced coaching hires when you've spent to the cap to compete. Choosing that position to save dollars on can hamper everything else. It can also elevate a team that is missing parts or on a cap budget. So, basically, don't skimp out on your coach, ever.

Nope, I'm told Darryl is under $3m, I doubt Gallant is less than $4.5-$5.0

The amount they spent to get to Darryl is likely the equivalent of what they could have spent on a quality coach back in 2017. This really isn't debatable. The Flames wasted time and money. So what if Darryl took a pay cut?

I'm of the opinion that Darryl Sutter is among the top 5 coaches in the league. Maybe higher.
Any bellyaching over anything else is annoying noise.

Gallant won't have any trouble hailing a cab in NYC.

I'd rather have Sutter, and I like Gallant
That's an impressive group of young players he gets to coach in New York, good for Gallant. Seems like a great spot to land
