Draft Poll: June 11th Who would you pick?
Since we have a pretty solid consensus thought it would be interesting to see who the majority would pick out of a tight group of forwards.
This will change in the next month I'm sure.
Didn't want to wreck the other topic with a specific poll.

I think Lysell is the biggest homerun swing at 13 (er...ah, 12), so that's where I'd look.

Probably Coronato, but I'd honestly have no problem with any of those guys (except Räty).

Personally, Lysell.
But a center would be so dreamy too so Lucius, Sillinger, McTavish, Raty are all great options. I hope they make the pick and I hope they get a good FW.
Lysell really took over the top of my personal list the last couple of weeks. Still dig Lucius though. And Raty I think is a big swing / dark horse.
I get Miko Koivu vibes from him.

its a pretty good group of players that would be available.
I voted McTavish, but do not think he'll be there by the time calgary picks (assuming they don't move up)
Raty is definitely a bit riskier and feel that Sillinger is probably the 'safest' pick.
Lysell and Coronato would be a bit riskier with a higher upside imo...
but agreed that you can't go wrong with this group; though Raty is maybe a shade riskier than the others

That is who I guess they will take

I love the player, but can't be burned by another American going to Harvard

There's the big 4 D ranked near the top, and I think there is an outside chance of a Fowler type of fall on draft day for one of them - probably not likely to the Flames but there's a chance.
If I was to wager, my target faller would be Simon Edvinsson. Who would be tremendous value. Again - I think this is only a small probability though.
So after the top group of Edvinsson, Hughes, Clarke and Power you are into the next wave that probably is just one of Carson Cuelmans or Caarson Lambros.
Then you have the wild card of the goalie who's in that range.

Why? The Flames don't typically pick D in the first round any more than any other position. when they do it's turn out not too bad: Macinnis, Gauthier, Morris, Phaneuf, hopefully Valimaki. One superstar and a bunch of solid NHLers.
Big misses on Biotti and Erixon but that's about it.

honestly, just a guess. But there seems to be a gap at the top end of the Flames prospect pool in the 18-21 year old range for D
Not that they are deep in 18-21 year old forwards, but Zary, Pelltetier gives them two better prospects than anything they have on the blueline

Does not sound like the goalie will be around at 12, but if Wallstedt were available, I'd sure hope the Flames took him. Time to draft and develop a franchise goalie.
Have the 3 years of ELC line up with the last 3 years of Markstrom's contract. One year as backup, one year as 1A/1B, and last year having Markstrom be his backup.

Either Cole Sillinger or Matthew Coronato.
Haven't decided yet.

It was between Sillinger and McTavish for me. My responses below are all opinion/speculation-based.
Since we've always had trouble scoring as a team and have not had a goal scoring center in a long time, the choice for me was McTavish. He had a good WJC, and if it weren't for the OHL cancelling their season I think McTavish would have been a top 5 lock. It would already be a miracle if he went past the top 10 picks.
Sillinger was the next option for me. Wasn't too high on him at first, but he looks to have a great work ethic. He's crushed any league that he has been in, which means that he has the drive and motivation to adapt to any environment he is in.
Lysell would bring a great addition to this team too, he brings the speed that we desperately need, and looks to be an excellent playmaker. With an NHL so dependent on speed, Lysell would help increase our average in that department.
Coronato... A wildcard for me. I love his game, I would love the pick if we got him, however, the Harvard thing scares me, even though it really should not at all. Maybe I am just having Fox PTSD. Maybe I am wrong and overthinking it, but that little percentage of him actually leaving makes me want to look elsewhere first. Again, wouldn't be mad at all if we picked him, I'd be ecstatic. Another much needed goal scorer.
Lucius is a project and one that I don't mind keeping. I think he has an extremely high ceiling than most prospects in this draft (I'd say top 3), but the injuries are a bit worrisome, and his floor could absolutely be a bust (in my opinion).
Raty... I don't know, I just don't like him. He doesn't have impressive numbers for me to want to take the gamble on him. I don't see him being a top line player, only a 3C, maybe a 2C. But we already have one of those in Zary, who has way more potential to be better than Raty. Frankly, he is another project, so I think a team that made the playoffs this year that has the patience for him to be ready in 4-5 years should take him. Everything I am saying sounds like Raty is a good pickup, I just simply think that the list on this poll all are better options for the Flames.

Lysell for me. Team needs that speed. Watching Vegas / Avs series we need to add a lot more speed and skill.

CGY needs speed (skill for a first round pick is an obvious requirement) and power, ideally in the same draftee.
I'd like to see guys who make things happen (plays but also forechecking or intimidation) but need explosive, powerful players.
I'd like to not see players who have some skating issue they think they can fix. Get guys who have plus skating as innate trait.

Lysell, McTavish or Sillinger and I'll be pretty pumped. I picked Lysell for the poll, love the speed and skill. Sorely lacking in the organization right now.

I won't pretend to know who to pick as I have not seen any of them play,
But I do hope they draft a C who can skate
