I thought he'd push for a spot from what we saw at his fist training camp with CGY, didn't pan out. Well that's one less RHD in the system now.

Not a surprise. Nice depth D to have, but from his perspective the KHL beats the AHL.

I liked what I saw from him in training camps and a few pre-season games, but he never got more than a sniff of NHL action to show what he could do. Not saying he was better than our normal top 6, but it would've been nice to see what he could do a little more.

It sounds like the Flames are going to have procure some depth AHL defensemen.

When you're a 24 year old prospect you either kick down the doors, or wait for an emergency. Seeing as how he gave the Flames a choice, he is off the bus and back to Russia.

Maybe less than some would think, Players like Solovyov will he coming in. Kinvall is scheduled to come over this year I think.
So the farm depth today:
Poolman
Solovyov
Mackey
Kinvall
Petrovic
Kuznetsov

Not terrible news, but I thought he showed well in the 3 or 4 games he actually got to play. Given how well he actually did play (especially considering he was relatively raw), I was surprised he didn't get any further call-ups. He looked ready to start taking more reps.
With Mackey and Kylington, and with the resurgence of Stone, it just wasn't in the cards for him any longer here, however. Hope he does well in the KHL, and finds a good landing spot in the NHL eventually.

Every single time I see or read "Finkel and Einhorn", my brain immediately begins replaying the crying game. It's an awful burden.

For what it's worth, Petrovic does not currently have a contract for next season. Nor does Zac Leslie, who you didn't mention and who also played a big role on the Heat defense this year.
