Teammates love Bennett too.

Just now, he got a bit of a hard shot/check from Schenn and looked a little shaken. No hesitation, Ryan Lomberg goes right over and starts fighting Schenn.

Damn this trade is looking ugly at the moment. Bennett is a monster right now.

Ya, who would have thought? Oh wait, I did but none of the meathead coaches we had thought to give him a long look with some talent.

Playing with Huberdeau at ES and both Barkov/Huberdeau on the PP helps a lot in terms of generating offence. Good for Bennett but the Flames don’t have any players even remotely close to that level.

But there is no excuse for playing him only 13 mins a night whereas Florida is playing him over 18 mins a night. Just an overall mishandling. Treliving was right all along... “Bennett is going to be a great player in this league” but I guess for other teams. What a joke.

Fire this clown.

A GM shouldn’t be fired for any one trade, but this is definitely another strike against Treliving.

His incompetence in hiring NHL quality coaches is really getting exposed. My goodness.

Damn these retro Panthers jerseys are freaking beautiful.

Picks up an assist now on a Huberdeau squeaker.

LOL, quoted for truth.

They aren't the actual retros, they are a cleaned up version of them. Made them look really nice with a few key updates.

I believe even those of us that thought Sam was pretty bad knew he would likely break out to an extent once traded. I include myself in this. It just didn't seem like he was given the right opportunities here for any length if time.

I think the issue with Sam here is indicative of the whole problem with the team and that is sub par coaching and management that wasted the current core's best years. And why we are looking like a bottom feeder with no future.

Yup, he was right under our noses all along! He is the type of player we could use right now.

Some of us have believed in this version of Bennett; I have always felt he was holding back, but definitely looking a lot more confident and having fun out there.

Sad thing is, Panthers have the playoff Bennett we could never seem to awaken during the season.

Don't worry. Everything will be fine once Emil "the real deal" Heineman hits his stride.

Just on a side note, during the intermission interview, Bennett was asked why he and Huberdeau are having regular success. His response (paraphrased):

Quote:
Huberdeau is an amazing player with the best vision I've ever seen. He makes great plays all the time. Pretty much all I have to do is be in the right place and the puck will come to me
Seems like Sam gets it and is aware of why he's doing so well all of a sudden. I'm not taking anything away from him at all because he's still producing, and if just anybody could do it, they would. But it's clear that guys like Barkov and Huberdeau elevate players on their lines. Good on Sam for making the most of his opportunity.

Just imagine if Bennett actually sustains this moving forward. Flames trading a #1 center that they've been looking about 30 years for just because we didn't give him any real extended opportunity with top players and minutes. Seems about right for this franchise. Why must the Flames make it so hard to be a fan of this team...

I am 40 years old and have been a Flames fan for as long as I can remember.

I never though I’d say this, but I think I might of had enough. Sam’s immediate/seemingly sustained level of success in Florida feels like the last straw. I find myself really hoping Sam and the Panthers succeed, and see myself watching most if not all of the Panthers playoff games.

Hot streak and playing with some elite players. He will be back to the third line next season. There have been many mediocre players that have looked good on the Panthers over the past few years.

Honest question, have you watched Bennett play at all in Florida?

Nothing wrong at all with being 2nd fiddle on a line. If it works it works. That's the thing about this topic for me. The Flames turned a blind eye to any chemistry Bennett found over and over again. In fact, they're doing it with Dube now. D7be is going to be the new Bennett. Instead of locking those two together and allowing the on ice chemistry to succeed, they broke it up because ..... well the Flames are stupid.
