Jesus Christ, I just started listening to Nick Cave a couple of months ago. I literally thought he was a recent indie artist that came onto the scene.

He was 20 years into his career when he played Lollapalooza. I’m happy for you though. He’s got an amazing catalog for you to discover.

I'd go with '94 too but '92, '93 and '95 are damn close.

'93 for me. No way I'm missing Alice in Chains. And Rage would be a huge bonus.

no Edmonton folk fest this year, but they've come up with something pretty awesome to replace it.

We're excited to announce Taking it to the Streets, bringing 40+ concerts from the hill to the streets of Edmonton.

Applications are open for hosting a street concert. Information, guidelines, and application forms can be found at the links below. Be part of the celebration this year!

https://edmontonfolkfest.org/

Would be cool for you guys if the Calgary folk fest did something similar.

The sound of silence: Edmonton indoor music venues may not host live shows until the fall

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...fxXnUMXQo_Doak

Could be the same story in Calgary?

Sled Island has teased some kind of announcement on June 15th. IIRC, Calgary Folk Fest has made no official announcements, though Edmonton Folk Fest is cancelled.

The Calgary Folk Music Festival’s 42nd annual event will look very different in 2021. Rather than a multi-staged festival, we’re producing an outdoor concert series, Summer Serenades, presented by ATB, at Prince’s Island Park July 22 - 28.

Join us for seven days of phenomenal programming featuring marquee artists from across Canada. Revel under the big Alberta sky as you watch live performances from a diverse collection of enticing Canadian artists.

We invite you to come together while staying safely apart at this grassroots community gathering as we work closely with The City of Calgary and Alberta Health Services (AHS) to bring us safely together.
I wonder if Sled Island will attempt something similar.

Asking $550 for a tarp for 4 people for a 3 hour show is ballsy. I think they are banking on the fact that people will be desperate to do anything, because the quality of the lineup sure doesn't warrant those prices.

There are some good acts in there, and given they could only pull from Canadian talent, it is what it is. But $140/person to see the Cowboys Junkies...

People pay more to see pro hockey without a second thought. Some might see it as a donation to keep the Festival and music industry afloat. I think they are also limited to 15% capacity?

With a significantly reduced (15% of normal) audience, Summer Serenades is a small step on the road to recovery for the Festival, live music and the arts. Its programming supports local and Canadian artists and the entire cultural ecosystem: technicians, production and site companies, agents, managers, publicists and other arts workers.

we still can’t gather like we used to... But there are other ways to stay in touch! Introducing postcards from sled island, a summer-long love letter to all of you.

From panels and film screenings to the return of the mixtape exchange and a very special collaborative album exclusive to sled island, keep an eye on your mailbox (and your feed) for lots of awesome treats over the coming months. In addition to this, we’ve been receiving video care packages from some of our favourite local and international artists throughout the year and we're very excited to share them with you, so to cap everything off this summer we’re planning to host a three-day, in-person event at the end of august where we’ll present a wealth of video content, featuring filmed performances, special guest appearances, documentaries and more. We might even have some live music for you if restrictions allow! Stay tuned for more details coming soon.
