Sucks as he sounded like he was a good kid and a good team mate. But he's a 7th round pick. I wasn't expecting Gilmour to be signed unless he knocked some socks off. Or should I say had zero expecations. Good luck to the young man though, just don't see how he steals a spot from the like of Culkin, Kulak, Kylington, Andersson, Seiloff. Would likely be in a battle with Kanzig, another signee and Morrisson. And some vets like Johnson.

I hope he gets a shot somewhere. Small player but always making something happen. Entertaining to watch.

I am surprised that the NHL still has this loophole. A guy spends 4 years developing his game and then a team can just decide not to sign him, thus making him a free agent. Sure seems like a Vessey situation to me.

Vancouver is a likely destination, they don't have much prospect depth there and they have a lot of big lugs back there, and the Weisbrod effect.

I'm sure there will be some pissed off Flames fans if he goes to Vancouver.

So teams should sign every player they draft? The league better up that pro contract limit.

Hickey seems to be growing into a pretty great prospect. Rafikov was ranked pretty high in the international scouting ranks originally wasn't he? I haven't really followed his progress, but from what I saw in the world juniors he has some potential.

A team shouldn't be forced to sign a player they aren't interested in anymore. In that scenario it is for the player's benefit to look at the other 29 teams.

Not surprising. Simply a numbers game, we have too many D as it is and JG is at the bottom of the list.

Isn't that what Vesey's doing? For his benefit he is looking at 29 other teams? The team has the right to not sign Gilmour. Same way the player has the right to not sign with Preds via the CBA.

This kind of comment seems to be the new cool thing to say. The "meh, who cares about his guy he won't make an impact anyway"...

Didn't mean to thank but have you considered that I just don't think any of the three are anything special?

I like a few of our prospect D (Kylington, Andersson, Wotherspoon to name 3) but there is a lot of 'meh' there. That's what happens when most of your D prospects are picked in rounds 3-7 or off of free agency after being passed over completely. We have picked one Dman in the first round in 10 years and 4 in the 2nd round in that span. So ya, there's not a lot of special players there for obvious reasons. Aside from TJ Brodie, the Flames haven't done a great job of getting defensemen out of the draft for a while now.

Without an equally tough replacement, the Flames would easily be the least tough defensive core in the league.

What does that have to do with John Gilmour?

You can only have so many contracts and prospects on minor league teams without taking from other prospects development. I get it.
