With a whole bunch of teams within 3 or 4 points of each other with a lot of games against each other, is it required to have 96 points to make the playoffs this year? Maybe 90 to 92 points can squeak in this year?

Still the Flames are more than likely done, or if they squeak in they will probably be swept by Vegas in 4 anyways....

Flames owners at this point would be happy to get two playoff games at least rather than none.

For me personally, it would help take off the sting of not having a first rounder. Plus it wouldn't be a top 3 pick, so avoid that embarrassment.

It's over. The Flames are out.
Agreed that it appears to be a longshot at this point. But the snek gets all 82 games in order to reach 96 points. It's not over until its over.

11-4-1 isn't out of the question.

Win 3, lose 1. Win 3, lose in SO/OT, Win 5 lose 1.

Very doable...also I can see them going 3-11-2 just as easily. This team is so polarizing it is frustrating.

Updated snake math:

28 points available to the Flames
20 points required to reach 96

Flames can "lose" 8 points in the next 14 games (Record of 10-4-0)

Somewhat more realistically, they could go 9-3-2
Break it into five game segments and they would have to go 3-1-1, 3-1-1 and 3-1. Not impossible, but unlikely.

Last night's win rights the ship. For the first time 5 games, both red snakes move up. It now sits 3.610 points below the black line, 4 points below the purple snake, and 5 points below the green snake. It will take 5 straight wins to get above the black line.

The red snake needs 20 points in its last 14 games to reach 96 points. That's a 1.429 PPG pace, or a 117 point season pace.

Is there anyway to project where the 8th seed point totals will end up. I kind of always assumed the 96 was pretty much set in stone, but looking back over the last 4 years, seems to vary all over the place.

So this late in the season is there some kind of formula that can narrow this down (hoping it’s not going to be 96 this year)

You could project the current 8th seed 82 game point totals but the snake only cares about 96.

96 is the goal and coincidentally right now Colorado in the 8th seed projects to get 96 points!

Updated snake math:

24 possible points left
18 points required to reach 96
Up to 6 points can be "lost" in order to reach 96

Required record: 9-3-0

A win last night makes it three wins in four games, and 7 points out of a possible 10 in the last five games. The Flames are going to need those type of results to get to 96 points. The red snake is 3.122 points below the black line 3 points below the green snake, and 4 points below the purple snake. It would take 4 straight wins to get above the black line, which would tie it with the purple snake at that point. Actually it would tie it with 3 straight wins, but then needs to keep winning to keep pace.

The red snake needs 16 points in its last 11 games to reach 96 points. That's a 1.455 PPG pace, 0.727 points percentage, and/or 119 points pace for the season. The red snake needs to bear down and trend up.
