Read today that SEA will get the same favorable expansion rules that Las Vegas did.

I wonder if Seattle will be able to draft from Vegas or not. Given their sudden success, I would say that plucking a player from Vegas is fair game.

That makes sense from the leagues point of view the expansion was a success. I wonder what the parody of the league will be like by the time Seattle is done drafting. It feels like the west has been tight ever since LV entered the league.

It's really unfair if Seattle does the same expansion draft as Vegas, they shouldn't be forced to pick someone from the oilers...

Seattle will need a farm team too. I'm sure the Oilers will have a number of players who are good enough for the AHL.

Of them, Gio is the only one who might be left unprotected, depending on what happens with the other d-men and the prospects who are coming up. A lot can change in two years.

No it's not! https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=162575
I think it's fair to say Tkachuk will be here. Janko and Bennett are maybes, depending on their development (or lack thereof). On the blueline you'd hope Andersson and/or Fox have made the jump, but still to early to tell, especially if a trade occurs. In goal, you'd hope someone out of Gillies/Rittich/Parsons has emerged as a number 1, but those are the hardest to predict.
Fearless prediction (5+3):
Gaudreau
Monahan
Tkachuk
Ferland
Dube
Hamilton
Fox
Andersson
Parsons

Any fair-to-middling NHL players born in Seattle that the Flames can trade for? Hoping for a repeat of the Deryk Engelland "Hometown Guy" selection.

What does this mean for division alignment?
ARI gets booted to the central?
I say go NFL style with 4 team divisions.

Will be interesting how they do it
What is going in with the coyote and whether it looks like they are staying might be a factor too, if they are moving I know most people think Houston makes the most sense which would be easy to throw in the central
I wonder if the jets might want to get into the Pacific as well though to get with the other 3 Canadian teams?

Not a chance, given the 2 hour time difference to most of the teams. Fans might want it but no way the owners do

I can answer that: the oilers will always be the parody of the NHL.

A few from Spokane (Tyler Johnson, Derek Ryan) but best current player from (born) in Seattle area is Oshie.
Engellend was born in Edmonton though, so as far as transplants, who knows. Seattle not having an Echl team like Vegas did also makes a difference in the pit stops of minor leaguers.

They'll take Reinhart as well, then put him on waivers.
Edit: for some reason I thought the oilers claimed him back. Ignore the above.

TJ Oshie was born in Mt. Vernon which is about 100 km north of Seattle, 120 km south of Vancouver.

Apparently the WA Gov may have leaked the name at a press conference about high speed rail (Portland to Vancouver). The Totems. It is one of the 13 names grabbed by the group redeveloping the arena.

The Seattle We Don't Have a Team Yets have hired Dave Tippett as a senior advisor.

So, I guess any worries that they'd be an instant contender like Vegas can be put to rest now.
