Can't remember where I saw it but I saw a recent leg day workout and he is a powerhouse.

He's the real deal. Won't have lost a step and positionally this kid just sees the game so well.

I've not seen a guy look as dominant as him since watching Suter and Chopper back in the day.

Excited he's going to get some reps.

I think he can earn a larger role with the team in short order next season, assuming he stays healthy.

He has undeniable potential and I think him and Andersson will be stud dmen for us for many years.

I can envision the Flames completely revamping the backend for next season with promising players like Mackey and Kinnvall also in the pipeline.

I’m also a big fan of Kylington but I have no idea what Treliving and co. think of him.

Oozes potential, but is prone to head-scratching mistakes at times (which his skating can cover up for still occasionally) and needs to bulk up a bit more - tall guy but gangly like Jankowski, hasn't filled out his man-frame yet. Still, smooth skating puck-handler defensemen are becoming more and more important in today's new NHL, so I expect his role will slowly increase going forward.

I wouldn't say 6'0" is tall but he is on the slender side, comparatively speaking.

Valimaki played his first pro game in 18 months today.

Played 22:26 in a 2-1 win. No points.

Holy mackerel.

As a reminder this guy was killing 5-on-3s in the NHL at age 19. He's going to be a stud

I'd rather have him than Mark Stone.

22 minutes is a hefty amount of ice time for your first game back. Are there any game highlights anywhere?

Ilves won 3-1 today with Valimaki playing on the top pair. Unfortunately the Liiga website appears to be down so I can't find any stats, but he made a nice defensive play on his team's first goal (he's #40 in yellow):

Unfortunately for Kanzig, that was where his skillset began and ended. His opinion does not apply to Valimaki's current play.

After seeing these two games from Juuso, it looks like he hasn't missed hockey last season. Of course it's not NHL-pace, but man is he good! I told my friends here in Finland, that he's going to surprise you guys (he's not that known here, because he played in NA before getting drafted). And yes, they agree now. No points yet, but it's just so fun to see him play after that horrible injury. And his overall level here in Liiga has looked like he's the best d-man in this league right now. Zero mistakes, and so reliable.

Juice is loose! Can't wait the next season, and see Juuso take TOP4-D-spot in Calgary.

This is why I keep thinking that the Flames are willing to part with Hanifin for the right price. They see Valimaki as a top 4 LHD option pretty much right off the hop. It's harder for us fans to see this because they haven't been able to see Valimaki play for a year and a half, but Flames brass see him skate with his peers quite regularly.

Moving Hanifin clears cap space, adds assets in other areas, and cleans up the expansion draft D slots after they add a top 4 RHD option this off season.

it is extremely unlikely that they see him as top 4 right away. They are not going to rush him, especially after all his injuries.

Bottom pair this year, then see how quickly he progresses.

Yet, Hanifin is 20 months older, has played 370 more games than Valimaki and put up 135 more points.

On top of this, even if they did see him as a top 4 right away, the injuries are reason enough to keep Hanifin. What's the harm in keeping both? 5 top 4 defensemen? Oh the horror of it all
