Especially loving what I saw from Andersson. It's clear that Hanifin plays much better with a mobile d-partner. Those two looked great together. Shoring up that #3-4 spot is invaluable to this team.

Hamonic - great dude. His time as a Flame though? Did any of his partners play better with him than without him?

Hanifin and Andersson starting to lay claims to that “1st pairing” title. I imagine they’ll have it to start next season.

Personally I still think that's Treliving's worst move as Flames GM.

At least Neal/Brouwer were just cap space.

Giving up three high picks for Hamonic who had only 1 good season as a Flames d-man is a bad move.

Adding Gus and Forbort are looking like very shrewd moves now. It's surprising to me that 2 players who didn't play on the team until late in the season have fit in so seamlessly.

It's actually a bit low - Talbot ranks 14th among all goalies that played at least one game in the qualifiers.

Also if you look at goalies that played at least 1000 minutes in the regular season the lowest HDSV% was .734 and Talbot was .799.

It's his medium and low danger that are impressive and at the top of all goalies in the qualifiers.

Absolutely.

Forbort's most common partner this season prior to the trade was Doughty on the top LA pair.

Comes here to be our #6 (#7 likely if Hamonic was available).

Everything about it was off. Hammer was established - he was what he was. At that stage of the build, who spend three prime assets on a depth defenceman? I think he sucked into a bidding war/was guilty of falling in love with a player on paper.

I'd put it right alongside Neal and Brouwer, but it's not as bad in my eyes because at least Hammer is an absolutely excellent dude off the ice and bled Flaming red for us. We never got that level of commitment from those two bums.

It is definitely his worst trade, and honestly why I think he's a bit gun-shy when it comes to significant trades now.

This is one thing that I think people struggle with some times when evaluating players.

Guys that are bad in top pairing / top line roles doesn't mean they are bad players all together (especially in those roles on bad teams).

A guy like Forbort getting smashed in a little bit in tough minutes on the top pairing doesn't mean he's a bad player, means he needs to be slotted better on the third pairing.

Similar to Alex Chiasson here - he should have never been on the top line with Gaudreau and Monahan but he's a pretty good bottom sixer in the right role / team.

I wish the Flames had acquired Calvin de Haan instead of Hamonic - though he injury prone too. He is so steady.

I think I would have preferred it if they acquired neither.

Pulock would have been the shrewd move.

At that point after the 16-17 season he hadn't established himself yet, was 4 years post draft, had spent three years in the AHL, and at the time I remember Islanders fans had worried his development had stalled.

Bringing in a 22 year old RH shot d-man that hadn't broken out yet would have been perfect for the age and development group of this team.

Hamonic is done with the Flames. I don't see how the team will re-sign him as he becomes too expensive and with many good young D coming up....

Forbert just looks steady and solid in his role.

Gus filled a need, with his big shot from the point...which is actually kind of crazy, as the Flames seemed loaded with offensive d-men a few years ago. Hamilton being traded and Gio taking a step back had left the team pretty depleted in that department.

Only one player shows up in every one of the counting stats: Lindholm. He scores, hits, blocks shots, drives play, is responsible defensively, doesn't take penalties and shows up every game. He is criminally underrated around the league and the Flames are very lucky to have him.

Hamonic literally didn't show up for the playoffs. No way he is returning.

Hanifin and Andersson is looking like a solid pairing, who can the Flames bring in to replace Brodie (I don't think he's re-signing)

Any chance Byfuglien comes back? Pair the old guys together.

Maybe if TReliving trades Gaudreau he can get Sanheim in the return, he's a LHD that plays the right side like Brodie is he not?

Just don't want the Hanifin-Andersson pairing broken up. A pair of 23 year olds both signed long term to sweet deals.

Re: Gus. It’s more than his shot, he’s quarter-backing our PP which has really changed since he’s joined. Our PP has been anemic forever and he brings the opportunity to slot Gio on PP2 where he’s a better fit. I feel like Gus brings a really interesting dynamic with Johnny that others weren’t able to fill.

If he was a bit gun-shy about significant trades, why did he go out and make that Hamilton/Ferland/Fox for Lindholm/Hanafin trade the next offseason? That's a far more significant trade than the Hamonic deal.
