Does anyone still believe this Stanley Cup deserves an asterisk?
The games have been super intense and awesome, compounded by a tougher lifestyle for the players this may be the most worthy Stanley Cup ever in my opinion.
Thoughts?

Four rounds of 7 game series. There was never an asterisk for me.
Most teams were 12-13 games short of 82, and the qualifying rounds mean teams ultimately end up playin about 72-ish games. So ultimately, this season means that teams played about 10 less games with a full playoff.
This is the real deal. Does anyone apply an asterisk to the 2013 championship?

None for me. The way it's been played out might be different but it's still a round of playoffs to see who gets to raise the Cup.

Agreed, if anything this is harder to win than a typical year. They’re cold, out of practice, out of sync, the pucks look like bb’s to goalies, essentially an additional playoff round before it even begins, limited call ups, mental stress of the environment.

No asterix. Theres still the actual playoffs to get through.and those haven't changed.
These preliminary games aren't even the real thing yet.

The only thing that deserves an asterisk is playoff stats; having an extra 5 game round counted should not be part of the records, but I guess it will be.

The only thing that might need an asterisk is any sort of player stats. They are including the play in round as playoff stats from what I heard so if any player sets any sort of records for points or whatever it could potentially be as a result of having one extra round.

I'll cut the different opinion:
Yes, still an asterisk. For me there will be an asterisk even if the flames miraculously come out the cup champs. I will celebrate it, but it will never be the same to me as running through the entire season, into the playoffs, and winning the cup.
Even on the winning team side, the celebration is all wrong: no Red Mile, no victory lap around the ice lifting the cup as adoring fans cheer you on, no giant cup parade...
It would be nice to win, but to me it will never be the same as winning in a "normal" sense.

No, but, it's clearly not the same thing. It would figure that a Canadian team will go on to win the cup with no ability to have big parades or street parties etc.

Obviously it is going to be weird not having the celebrations etc. But the accomplishment of winning the cup should not have an asterisk. It will be just as difficult to win the cup as it always was, so it should be respected just as much as any other year.

Someone noted...
This years winner will have to win 19 games instead of 16 in a playoff style format...
Seems to me that it is harder this year.
No asterisk...

Is it just as difficult? Is it more difficult? Is it less difficult?
These are all things I can't pretend to know or fully understand.
As a fan, I will never consider this playoffs/cup run the same as others. It's not because of the "difficulty" level, but because of the completely bizarre and somewhat surreal circumstances faced around the world during the same time as this is being played. Nearly all of the normal variables that determine team success off the ice are right out the window. My own interest as a fan isn't even purely on flames success anymore- i have to say that while it will irk me to see them out, I don't really care about them moving on too much. I am just happy to see any team playing on TV. But to me that takes a lot of the passion/ fun out of watching too. I am way less invested.
Anyways, just my opinion. No slight at all to the players or to the effort that will still be required for success. It's not the same.

There is an asterisk for me as well. I think each team is missing an extra player, or an ex factor in a way, and that is the fans. I think the fans themselves influence games/officials quite a bit, and so far there seems to be less emotion in a way.
The other reason is that teams are still not on their A game. A lot of the play despite having a higher intensity than the regular season still feels a bit sloppy, and less crisp than you would expect out of the playoffs.
That said, I am just glad hockey is back, and I don't really care what you call the winner of this tournament. I just look forward to the games getting better and better.

Not exactly true because the top four teams on each side only have to win 16 like any other season. The bottom 4 teams have to win their play in series so they would be at 19 wins.

The only asterisk is that if the Flames win the cup, there won't (or at least shouldn't) be a red mile
