I like this idea, a lot.
I'd love to see a connection with Calgary based Units, Calgary Highlanders & King's Own Calgary Regiment.
Walcheren Wheat Ale
Dieppe Dark Ale
Also, a PPCLI brew, Kapyong Kolsch
Yeah the more I type the more I like this idea.
I hope it goes well for you. I'm gonna grab some of your beer this week.
I have one question. Is there a component of your business that gives back to the military or veterans organizations?
|
I like the way you think, lol. Our plan once established is to release some seasonal beers in what will be known as our "Regimental Series". Each one detailing some history behind a specific Regiment. It has been fascinating doing the research behind the stories we've put on the cans.
We do indeed plan on giving back to some military and veterans organizations. We are planning to be a sponsor at "Spin for a Vet" if/when it can be held https://spin4vets.com/ which raises money for the Homes for Heroes Foundation. Once we are a bit more established on our end we plan on working with a number of other veterans groups as well. The Royal Canadian Legion is also on our radar to work with.

Looks like Silver Springs Liquor carries it. I'm going to confirm this week.

Thanks for the response Wookster, it is nice to see that you will be giving back and not jsut profiting from military (I hope that masks sense, it is not meant in an adversarial manner).
I would give the Legion a pass, it is so far removed from what it was meant to be.
This is a good organization:

Best of luck man.
Also maybe a Medak Pocket Pilsner

First off, congrats on the venture. I look forward to trying everything you have.
That said, I'm in Nova Scotia so if you start selling via the NLSC give me a heads up.
I haven't read the entire thread yet, I'll have questions and perhaps some things to think about from a craft beer lover/hospitality management background.
Best of luck. Love the look of the cans which in the craft market is SUPER important.

Wow good for you! I'm keen to try these whenever I can get back to Calgary.
I love, love, love your cans (phrasing!). Many new brewers start with bottling so it's great to see yours in a can. Also, really ballsy to have your first beer be a NEIPA.
I am curious though, why the choice to go with the larger 473mL cans? I've been wondering about this for craft beer in general. Is it just a distinguishing branding feature? Is it meant to be the equivalent of larger bottle and meant for sharing? Is it because your market is already well off craft beer drinkers so why not squeeze a little more profit off each can?

Couple of reasons for the larger cans, first the different can size differentiates us from macro breweries who all can in 355ml sizes but the main reason is (and bud drinkers will likely roll their eyes at this one ) that 473ml is 16 ounces, the standard size serving at most places and also the standard size for most beer glasses. Craft beer is meant to be drank from a glass, not the can directly in most cases so you can pour the entire beer in the glass and it fits just right. Im sure there are other reasons for other breweries but thats why we went with that can size.

I hear ya...we're not beer snobs that will only produce barrel aged trappist farm ales or things like that. I personally think that nothing is better after working out in the sun for a few hours than a crisp pilsner beer. Don't get me wrong, I like IPA's also, and darker beers. We have a red ale that I am hoping will be released in the fall that is really tasty. We will try to appeal to a wide spectrum of beer drinkers.

Any idea when the Pils will be on LiquorConnect? I'd be down to try a few packs.
Only comment is the 'Ridge by Midday' confused me (maybe I'm a simpleton) as reads like Midday is the brewery - I had to try a few different search terms on LiquorConnect since I thought I kept getting the wrong results.

our pilsner is currently lagering away and our plan is to package it in about 2 weeks time, as long as its ready. It will be shipped to liquor connect right away after packaging.
Thanks for the name feedback, I can see how it can be read that way. I think if you read the caption though, it becomes clear...hopefully it doen't cause too much confusion for people.

Yup, we canned the majority of our product but do have some available in draft. Our beer is at collective (if they haven't sold out) and we had our one and only tasting event there right before Covid hit. It was very successful and we can't wait to get out and start promoting that way again.
We've ran kegs through Beer Revolution and a couple of restaurants in Edmonton and also the Beer Den in Cochrane but keg sales came to a complete standstill during Covid and are just coming online again now. Its quite hard to get into bars and restaurants when your new, especially now with all the beer that was sitting during Covid lockdown but we're working on it.
We can't do Growler sales ourselves as we don't have a physical location to sell out of but plan on doing tastings and working on getting into growler bars here this summer.
