0 chance it goes to anyone but Bedard. Regardless of how he did this year he was always going to win it. Remember when they made up an award last year so he could win?

Probably right around where he was in rookie scoring: 8th-ish.

He'll probably turn into a solid player, but every time I saw Hughes play this season he didn't look great to me. Small sample size for sure, but he really struggled more often than not when I tuned in. Faber I liked what I saw from him.
Not that it matters for this award anyways, it's a forgone conclusion.

Definitely Bedard's trophy. Only surprise is I thought we'd see Cooley instead of Hughes.

^ agree with all of that.
But Bedard had his name on this award before the season started. Can't get logic get in the way of giving a trophy to the NHL's next poster boy.

Bedard is also only 18, and he won't turn 19 until July. If you compare him to what a 19 year old Matthews did with a pretty good Leafs team, its impressive. He also has a more rounded game for a #1C and doesn't score 40 goals and get 10 assists.
Bedard was playing with stars like Lukas Reichel, Ryan Donato, Corry Perry, and Nick Foligno to name a few.

Bedard didn't have anything to work with though.
Curious how would he have done in zarys spot with a bit more support?

Faber is an absolutely great player. What he did in Minnesota this year cannot be understated. I do think he will take a vote or three.
But Bedard got told to go out and be the only thing in Chicago worth watching and he went out and did that.

I thought his play dipped as the season moved along, which isn't uncommon for rookies. Maybe you watched him more in the second half. I recall him looking great to start the season and then looking meh to bad on some nights in 2024.

Before you tell me plus minus is flawed and the Hawks are a bad team, Jason Dickinson played over 16 minutes a night and was +4
Zary, also on a bottom 10 team, had 30 ES points in 63 games and was +12
If the Calder was relative to expectations, I’d say there is an argument there is a better case for Zary

Bedard was the driving force for pretty much 100% of his points, and many were hi-light reels.
He had zero offensive help. If Zary had played for Chicago in place of Bedard, he'd have gotten first line minutes and 20 points.
Bedard was everything he was talked about to be.
He had a spectacular season.
There is no case for Zary, although he had a fine season. For him.

21 in D years is probably about the equivellant of 18 in F years.
I just think Faber brings more to the table in terms of what you need to win. I'm not saying Bedard isn't an awesome player... I'm just saying I think Faber gives a team a better chance to win. To me, winning will always trump personal stats.
