I really hope Roy doesn't have to start 3 games in 3 days.

I don't think he will. That's a little too much to ask.
Brandon was saying on the broadcast tonight that Dell had a 30 win season with UND and isn't too bad of a goalie. I just looked up his stats and while not jaw dropping, they aren't horrible. We could start him for a game.

Dell's ECHL stats this year are very similar to Roy's: http://www.echl.com/stats/statdispla...pe=top_goalies
Might as well give him a chance.

It's nice to know Aaron Dell is good if the wheels fall off, but he shouldn't get to play until such a thing happens.

except this is not your average back to back situation, 3 games in 3 days is difficult for players, 3 games in 3 days is even more difficult for goaltenders
I would rather play Dell for 1 game than risk Roy getting injured.

I think it's a little extreme to assume it's an injury risk to play 3 games in 3 nights.
If Roy plays well today, he'll get the start again tomorrow, I can almost guarantee it.
It's better to test the mettle of a prospect than to waste games on a PTO. It's a developmental league, sometimes playing lots is part of that development.

There's only 20 hours between the start time tonight and the start time tomorrow. So, that probably makes it even less likely Roy will start all 3 games.

There is 3 games in 44 hours.
Does Ward risk the chance of injuring Roy, who at this point looks to be the long term starter for the Heat for the next while, because the backup is on a PTO? Heck no.
And yes, the risk of injury is very real. Even top conditioned athletes are going to run the risk of injury with 3 high level games in 44 hours. It's not enough time for the body to rest and repair in between. Goaltenders take a beating during most games with all the awkward movements. He needs time to rest or he will be hurt, that's a given.
It's not a matter of if he plays well, it's a matter of protecting what is now our starting goaltender for the foreseeable future. If he goes down, then what?

Lets just hope Ortio and Berra can stay healthy until Ramo returns.
If one of those goes down and the Flames need to recall Roy the heat could be in trouble. Do the Flames have any goaltending prospects in the Juniors they could use as an emergency call up?

[GDT] Heat vs Wolves - Feb 22 @6pm MST & Feb 23 @2pm MST
We beg Gillies to quit school offering a solid gold Masaratti in return.
Our stock of goaltending prospects is fairly depleted. I think if we did run into that, the Flames would need to make a trade for someone to come in or go to Europe to sign someone (Rastoslav Stana comes to mind)

You would think it shouldn't be hard to pry away an AHL quality back-up from another team.

I'm really intersted to see how tonight's game goes. Wolves seem similar to Ads, lacking firepower, but strong as a defensive club.

I don't think it's extreme at all.
And how exactly would stating Dell for 1 game be wasting a game of his PTO? I believe with goaltending PTOs you lose a game whether he plays or not as long as he dresses.
Plus he was signed to a 25 game PTO with 24 games remaining. Even if I am wrong about the above he could start every game without fear of it ending sooner than we would like.

Naw PMM you need to be more creative. We need to sign someone that will make the world talk, that will bring butts into the seats of the AESC.

I meant waste in the sense that he's not a part of the Flames system, so giving Dell starts over Roy (if Roy is able) doesn't sit right with me.
I feel for goalies that have to wait so long and for just the right set of circumstances to get their shot. I thought it would be cool to see Heemskerk play, but in the end, it's all about the Ws and the player development.
If it will injure him to play 3-in-3 (you guys seem convinced it will) then that's not best for his development. If he feels good to go, I think you have to play Roy on Sunday too, however.

We are not convinced he will get injured. We are convinced it largely increases the risk of injury.
Is one game worth the risk of losing Roy so we are then forced to go with someone on a PTO?

lets go get a former high pick / star (not named Krahn) looking to make an unbelievable comeback towards the NHL. That would be an awesome story!
