You don't like wheels made in China, eh? Where do you think steelies are made?
Steelies never look good. You can always find inexpensive wheels that work well with your car. Not to mention steelies will rust.
It's simply bad advice to tell people to get steelies since they look like ass.

hah, I remember asking my Dad 10 years ago when I first got winters and he said "I usually switch in March". I've always remembered that but each march rolls around and it never feels like the time to switch.
General consensus is when the average temperature is 7C is the time to switch I believe.

I gotta say, it's a pet peeve of mine to see people in a $60,000+ vehicle rolling around on winters with el cheapo steelies. I'm happy they're on winters but to IMHO steelies belong on a 15 yr old pickup, Impala, or a 2005 Corolla. On a new $60K Highlander? Got for the 200 cheap alloys. Or at least wheelcovers for the steelies.
IMHO - Steelies are like the sweatpants of the automotive world. They are practical, cheap, and functional. At a certain point though - you shouldn't wear them with your nice shirt.

Last year when shopping for winter tires in the fall I was gonna get steelies and I mentioned it on CP.
Then Sliver bullied me and so I ended up buying proper rims.
In hindsight, it was a great decision and I'm super happy with what i got. My car would look so crappy with steelies and they weren't that much cheaper. I found a good package deal for new tires and rims in the fall.

This board is funny sometimes.
"Everyone should have winter tires! You're a cheap ass if you don't"
"Ok, I'm gonna get these steelies"
"What? They're fugly. Spend more money"
Can't win. For the record, I'm a recent convert to winters, they're amazing and I would never go back. Got rims like Sliver's post too, but who gives a crap what someone else puts on their car as long as it does the job?

I've noticed the same thing, about multiple topics.
It makes me wonder if I'm becoming a crotchety old man or something. Too many of the posts on here are whining about how someone else chooses to live.
I actually type out a lot of comments and then end up deleting them to not piss everyone off more than I normally do.

I wouldn't be caught dead with those cheesedick rims on my ride, and I'm no snob, I buy take off factory rims.

Yep. If you're going to do it cheap, you might as well admit it. There's no shame in that. TBQH, I don't think (black powder coated) steelies look bad on a car at all.

Dude, those were the first rims that came up in my search and illustrated my point about aluminum rims being only slightly more expensive than rusty steelies.
There are a million different types of rims in that price range so you could get anything you like. If you have a $30,000 car, are spending $600 for winter tires, and slapping them on $280 rusty rims, I'm just saying spend 0.8% more and get wheels that will look much nicer for much longer and will more than make up the extra $120 when you go to sell them when you don't need them anymore.

And all I'm saying is despite all that it still looks like crap to me. I've never seen a wheel for less than $200/each that looked decent, apart from the used market

There is no possible way you can say that. It's preposterous. These are $100 black Tourens on my minivan. Are you really trying to tell me steelies would have looked better? That's fataing crazy.

I have steel wheels on my 2003 4runner with black faded paint, a couple hail dents and cracked windshield. I like to think the ol girl has character so you can all bite me.
