Adam Bighill to Winnipeg

@Ted_wyman:
Hearing the #Bombers very close to signing LB Adam Bighill. Would be huge signing for #CFL team on eve of main training camp

What do you mean he underestimates the amount of work required? How do you know this? Supposedly the reason he's signing now is because he wants to partake in a full training camp. I get being a skeptic but it's not out of the realm of possibility he's taking this seriously. I think it's a great story for the CFL as it's going to drum up interest especially if he gets to play.

Pretty harsh thing to say about a guy with bipolar disorder that self medicated with alcohol.

I hope for nothing but the best for him, the CFL needs quarterbacks, the league is at a low point in terms of QB talent, and frankly its getting tougher to bring QB's up to the CFL because of the low Canadian Dollar and high taxes.

Also by all accounts he looked pretty good in terms of the tryout camp. As well this isn't a simple signing, the CFL provided him with a pretty long list of conditions in order for them to approve the contract, and apparently he hit all of them.

You may not like the guy personally, but as a fan I hope he comes in and has great success. Not to mention the Stamps home opener is against Hamilton this year

I just hope he doesn't embarrass his team or the league as a whole.

Hope he is starting the Stamps home opener. I’d be tempted to fly back to Calgary for that.

The Ticats sign a woman beating junkie and it looks good on the league? Really curious how that works? At least the trainwreck will be entertaining.

2018 CFL Rule Changes

The CFL Board of Governors has approved a number of rule changes for the 2018 season, including the elimination of coaches’ challenges for illegal contact on a receiver.

The rules committee made a number of recommendations in March, all of which have been adopted by the league. The other changes include:

• it is now illegal for any player to deliver a forcible block on an opponent while moving back towards his own goal line, sometimes referred to as “blindside” blocks.

• outlawed low blocks that occur outside of the “tackle box”, an area that extends from tight end to tight end and from the quarterback or kicker to two yards beyond the line of scrimmage

• widened the definition of spearing to include any situation where a player delivers a blow with his helmet as the initial or primary point of contact. This does not apply to a low running ball carrier.

• eliminated a loophole in the “sleeper” play rule by making it illegal for a player who enters the game and remains outside the numbers to receive the ball in any manner including a kick or lateral.

• simplified the rule on what constitutes a quarterback making a legal pass behind the line of scrimmage by defining it as the passer having at least one of his feet on or behind the line of scrimmage instead of requiring that the release point of the ball be behind the line of scrimmage.

• eliminated the “force out” rule by requiring a receiver catching a ball to place at least one foot inbounds regardless of whether he was contacted in mid-air.

• increased the penalty for “pyramiding” – the practice of using another player to elevate one’s self in an effort to block a kick — from five yards to ten yards to deter the behaviour.

Getting rid of the force out is fantastic! What a stupid rule that was

CFL on TSN Changes.

Expect some changes to the CFL on TSN broadcasts this year.

The biggest move, according to multiple sources, will see SportsCentre anchor Kate Beirness take over from Rod Smith as the host of Thursday Night Football.

Smith will continue to host the Friday night panel in addition to doing more play-by-play in support of Chris Cuthbert and Rod Black. Duane Forde and Glen Suitor will return as the primary colour commentators.

Former CFL player Davis Sanchez, who earned strong reviews for his performance on TSN’s CFL Draft coverage, is also expected to have an increased presence on the panel, which is expected to include Matt Dunigan, Jock Climie, Milt Stegall and Henry Burris in various combinations. The 43-year-old Davis brings an injection of youth to the panel while also addressing one of the biggest criticisms: the lack of a defensive perspective.

Anticipate seeing Chris Schultz back as a CFL fantasy football specialist on SportsCentre, though how much he’ll be a part of CFL on TSN telecasts – if at all – remains unclear.

As far as play-by-play is concerned, Rod Smith >>> Rod Black

Rod Black really has a great play by play voice, too bad his brain is attached to his vocal chords.

Johnny Manziel takes team reps at camp, also uses VR to help him figure out the game, which sounds cool.

@HerbZurkowsky:
No surprise. #Als announce QB Josh Freeman has decided to retire. Truthfully, he was struggling at camp

Didn’t even realize he was in the CFL. He started a good number of NFL games and had one excellent season for the Bucs.

Trevor Harris limped off the field after taking a big hit on his second series. Headed straight to the locker room.

Redblacks season may be over before it begins. Not to jump to any conclusions but that didn't look good at all.
Any teams nightmare in a preseason game.

the Johnny Manziel comeback story should be interesting...i was never a fan of his to be honest, but I hope that he is able to make a comeback and carve out a football career for himself.

overcoming addiction is a huge challenge... it sounds like he has been humbled and is contrite about his mistakes. it'd be a heck of a story if he was able to get even close to the kind of player he was at TAMU

I'm hoping that he has a good comeback. first of all because the CFL needs quarterbacks. It really does. This league just seems to recycle quarterbacks. Plus I think the way he plays the game is made for the big field and the unlimited motion.

Second after reading his story, the guy had/has bipolar disorder and he was basically medicating himself. I like his current attitude he's eager to come up and earn a spot, there's nothing that says just give me the spot.
