Hence Flames interest in Lunqvist? Don't do it, Tre.

Mangiapane is here to play. Glass is here to sit. Plus he has more NHL experience than anyone else there.

Mike Smith on IR makes thing interesting. Wonder if they are confident with Rittich/Gilies or try to pick up an experienced vet. Depends on how long Smith is expected to be out I guess.

Smith on IR doesn't really mean much. It is essentially a paper move that allows the Flames to move him off the 23 man roster.
While the press release doesn't say it is retroactive, it is most likely retroactive to the Islanders game which means he could be activated at any time.

Man that Sucks. Would have to pay an arm and a leg for decent goaltending before Monday afternoon.
Rittich and gillies, tag team and wing it down the stretch?

Depends on the injury. It will be retroactive to day he was injured. which was over a week ago. Could still be back any day now.

I would imagine that Ferland sits to rest up his re-aggravated injury and Mangiapane takes some reps on that 3rd line. The AHL line of Mangiapane -
Janko - Hathaway might get a few good shifts in.

Lomberg exchanged for Glass saves the Flames 60k on the cap. If neither of them are going to play (hopefully the case for Glass), it will give the Flames just a little bit more wiggle room down the stretch.

So you would rather a young guy developing come up and sit in the press box?

Or it could mean he's out longer than they had hoped.
The fact he didn't skate while with the team on the trip is not a good sign.
I got a feeling he may be out for a lot longer.

Like it or not the farm isn't full of NHL ready forwards at the moment.
Shinkaruk and Poirier haven't made a step, Klimchuk was fine but not ready to be a full time player. Lomberg wasn't quick or big enough to play the role he was playing. Hrivik was ineffective.
They brought up Jankowski and he stayed. They brought up Hathaway but he's really regressed. The Jagr experiment failed.
Now they don't have much available to them.
Mangiapane will be fine, but he didn't exactly kick the door down the last time he was in Calgary.
I like the way that Foo has adjusted but it's a stretch to think he's NHL ready now when he just found his AHL legs.
Another wave coming in Phillips and Dube, so there's that. Maybe they get D'Artagnon and Rucizka to continue to develop and add some size.
But they're thin on forward depth and it's showing with Ferland hurt/faltering.

Maybe the team is sick of the weak veteran leadership? Scratch Brouwer, play Glass.
