I have seen, on more than one occasion, where young Johnny gives less effort than the water boy.
In no way, would I give him any type of leadership role on this team.

Put Ferland on another line and bench Monahan and Johnny for a game.

Johnny gets fired up sometimes, but we need a pro athlete to be up for every shift.

Zero effort to break up plays. Hope he gets bag skated next practice.

The water boy gives a ton of effort.

This discussion amuses me. How can fans even speculate on who the next captain should be?

We have no clue what goes on internally.

There's roughly three kinds of captains.

One: Guy who's a leader in the room.
Two: Guy who leads by example on the ice.
Three: Guy who's persuasive arguing with the refs.

I wonder if Wired is that old lady that calls into overtime and always complains about Johnny and says we should trade him.

I can’t for the life of me remember what she calls him though. Always makes me laugh.

Agreed, and you need to have 1 of each as a captain or an assistant captain

At the moment I type this, one human being out of 7.6 billion has more points in the NHL this season than Gaudreau. 1 person. That's it.

What more do you want from him?

Are we going to be the first team ever that has a garbage man as a captain?

Monahan, Tkachuk does to many bonehead things. The captain is the leader, the one guys should follow their actions. Tkachuk is awesome don't get me wrong but you need a guy who can talk to the refs and has their respect, Monahan has that way more than Tkachuk. I also heard that some of the stuff that Tkachuk does on the ice pisses off the veterans, like the Detroit incident.

Three has worked great for the Ducks over the years. I don't think I've seen a player that's been more influential on the officials than Getzlaf.

In terms of putting up a lot of points and playing with an edge, sure. But Iginla was a super-respectful ambassador to the game off the ice and I think it's an understatement to say Tkachuk is not that guy lol. Iginla was beloved around the league, while everyone who isn't a Flames fan hates Tkachuk.

Although, I suppose no one could accuse the Flames of not having an identity if Matthew Tkachuk was the captain...

This thread has me got me thinking who should be our next captain, even outside of Tkachuk and Mony. All it's really made me realize is that Gio is far and away the best choice for our captain and he should remain our captain as long as he's a flame.
