(quick mockups)
Marleau:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Marleau - Bennett - Foo
Stajan - Jankowski - Lazar
Brouwer
Sharp:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Sharp
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Bennett - Foo
Stajan - Jankowski - Lazar
Brouwer
Something has to give if we bring in one more forward. I can't see them having Lazar riding the pine after his strong end to the season, not to mention all the "10 year flame" comments by mgmt. Worst case (and most likely) scenario would be one of Foo/Janko start in the minors, Lazar plays 4th line center and Brouwer plays 4th line RW.

2017/2018 Trade Speculation and Rumors
I think penciling Foo and Jankowski both into the starting lineup might be on the optimistic side of things, but time will tell.

Foo is very much a wildcard, but I'm almost certain that Jankowski is an NHL caliber player at this point. I'd be shocked if he's not in Edmonton on October 4th

I'd do 2 x 4m for Marleau. I don't know how much leverage a 37 year old has. Scored near 30 last season, but with the age, a steep drop off could happen at any moment.

Doan has an existing relationship with Treliving and would likely be comfortable reaching out to his old business associate. Iginla has closed the Calgary chapter of his life and moved on. He has been approached by the Flames in the past to do things for him, and he's rebuffed them. Iginla moved on from Calgary and did so very quickly. I don't see him coming back in any shape or fashion. Boston is his new home and he'll want to be close to that.

That depends on the bridge contract they get for Bennett. The term of Bennett's bridge should likely be the same as any contract for Marleau, that way when his contract expires they can account for the funds to cover Bennett's new contract. Sam Bennett and Patrick Marelau on the same line is pretty tempting. What a mentor for young Mr. Bennett! The more I think about it, the more I hope for it to happen.

You get them in now, or you risk wasting two prospects. Prospects have windows as well, and you need to keep them challenged. I would be concerned that leaving Jankowski in the minors could allow for him to plateau and stall in his development. Foo is different, but he's at the age where you need to keep him challenged as well. He also addresses a weakness in our lineup. I'd prefer we had lots of youthful enthusiasm in the lineup, regardless of the vets brought in. That can keep a team rolling when they get a little stagnant.

what's he have to prove? that he isn't a classless d-bag after all?
or just that he isn't old and washed up.

Jankowski has played a grand total of ONE YEAR of professional hockey, and you are worried that a second year would create a plateau? That is ridiculous. I would be quite surprised if both Jankowski and Foo do not spend even a little time in the AHL this year. There is no concern about "wasting" prospects this early in their professional careers.

3 year deal for Marleau? Yuck, hopefully the Flames miss out on him if that's the case.

Aves also signed Iggy for 3 years at the age of 36 when he was coming off a 61 point season with Boston. Iginla did have a couple of productive seasons with the aves, though his points total nose-dived in year 3 (major factor could be attributed to the team play)
I would prefer a two year deal on a reasonable cap hit and wouldn't mind Marleau on the team. 3 years seems a tad risky.

No to a college kid who has played 39 game seasons jumping right into the NHL.
No to a multi year deal for an over 35 year old player.

If Iggy signs in Edmonton, then yes, give Marleau 12.
Otherwise, no.

No kidding. Jankowski is even younger than Foo and plays a much more difficult position. Hard to be a patient fan.

2 years is the max we can go if the team wants to pay a forward north of $4-5M per season.

Why would we need Marleau? Can he play RW? Or is this sentimental because his name would look cool in a Flames jersey?

Rumour on TSN 1040 in Vancouver that Ryan Miller is set to sign a contract in Anaheim.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Marleau - Bennett - Lazar
Looks like a pretty solid top 9, and allows us to roll a 4th of:
Stajan - Jankowski - Brouwer
and that is depth you can win with.

I really don't think Marleau is going to sign up to be 3LW on a line with a guy basically coming of a bit of a sophomore slump (not his fault IMO) and an undrafted rookie. You'd want to find a way to put him on the top line or make Marleau the 3rd M in 3M.
Also I think it's highly doubtful both Foo & Jankowski break camp (I wouldn't even bet strongly on 1 of them doing it).

Mentioned this yesterday but worth repeating - it will be so sweet to break the curse in Anaheim by beating Ryan Miller. Not sure why him being in net would make it better. Yet it does.

Gibson/Miller will be a decent tandem for the Ducks.
Also Ducks love their ex-Canucks with Kesler, Bieksa and now Miller.
Didn't they also sign Mason Raymond last year?
