No real solid lineman in this draft by the looks of the rankings, just 1 top 15. The player is also a guard.

Looks like a draft heavy on dline.

I could see us trade up and maybe take the lineman, but it would be pretty dumb to pass on Rourke.

The B.C. Lions will not hoist the Grey Cup on home soil as the team so desperately craved but it won’t be due to a lack of spending.

Speaking to the media during the team’s end-of-season press conference, co-general manager Neil McEvoy confirmed speculation that his team exceeded the CFL’s $5.525 million salary cap in 2024.

“Will we be over the salary cap? Yes. By where, that I don’t know yet,” McEvoy acknowledged. “We have to put all the beans in a basket and figure out where we’re at, but I believe we will be over. I just don’t know where that’s going to land.”

The article also shows the penalties for going over the cap. If I was hosting the Grey Cup game, I'd go over the cap.

"The CFL employs a soft salary cap, which allows teams to go over the allotted amount by up to $100,000 by paying a dollar-for-dollar fine. Violations exceeding that amount are fined at a rate of double the infraction for up to $300,000 and triple for anything over that. Offending teams also forfeit their next first-round pick for overspending by six figures, with a second-round pick also surrendered by the most serious offenders."

If the GM knows they are over but doesn't know by how much that shows that they simply end up manipulating the numbers to make sure they don't get penalized a 1st round pick. I don't understand how you can log on to any of several websites and see exactly where any NFL team stands in regards to their salary cap space that week but in the CFL the GM's don't even know where their team is until after the season. It stinks.

All true, but they don't even publish live stats, so this is not really surprising.

Renovations to McMahon? I can't see them building a new stadium who knows.

That makes sense, but I am surprised that the Stamps get to host another Grey Cup without there being significant renovations to McMahon.

Does the CFL care anymore? They used to have standards but I think they ditched them all as the league started struggling. I'm pretty sure they even had a rule that you had to have 50000 seats to host, which is why places like Calgary would end up adding temporary seating to meet the criteria.

I thought the Commissioner said Calgary would never host another Grey Cup without a new stadium.

Ambrosie said a lot of things during his tenure that were little more than hot air.

It's kind of a shame how often the CFL in recent years kind of screwed up the host city for the Grey Cup. The league is obviously quite strong in the prairies but how many times did the Stamps host during their 10-15 years of being arguably the #1 or #2 team? How often did Edmonton or Regina host? Fewer times than what would have made logical sense.

Far too many Grey Cups were played in Toronto and Vancouver to try and drum up support for corporate sponsors and try and play in warmer weather locations. I think it was a missed opportunity for Calgary and the CFL with how few times the league title game was not played in the prairie provinces.

Certainly cant be the teams hope of winning...

Will be interesting whey they reach out shortly looking for renewals.

The CFL is a different league though with the amount of free agents each team has to deal with during every off-season. If the Stamps can find a QB and get aggressive in free agency, it doesn't take long to turn a team around. I mean, you are what your record says you are, but the Stamps lost several games this past season that they had every chance to win. It's a blessing in my eyes though as changes needed to be made starting with the coaching staff.

Also kinda sad how Calgary has had the dominant team in the league for forever until recently and their miserly ownership won't build a proper stadium that would be worthy of hosting more Grey Cups. I know McMahon, with the temp seats, is big enough but it's a dump.

They don’t host the grey cup based on team record. As much as I like local grey cup it just makes more sense from virtually every perspective to host it in bigger cities with better weather and more amenities.

Vancouver and Toronto get the grey cup more because their stadiums are more suitable, the weather is better, the cities can handle large events better, they have more hotels etc.

It’s the same reason the Super Bowl will never be played in Cleveland or Buffalo.

I think the league has done an excellent job at throwing the smaller markets a bone and letting them host every once in a while.

I also don’t have a problem with Calgary hosting. McMahon sucks but not nearly as bad as people like to think. They still have bathroom lineups in Regina, Winnipeg,Ottawa and Hamilton. Concourses get busy. It happens.

Honestly it’s probably better than 2/3 of FCS ncaa football schools. Not every stadium can be luxury. It has good sight lines, is easy to get to with transit.
