New thread for a new season:

Still a stupid start time for the Labour Day Classic.

Not playing the Riders until the penultimate day of summer is not great although maybe they are trying to bank on Riders fans helping to fill the stadium.

The two teams that own Jake Maier and the Stamps. I'm still holding hope that they find a better QB that unseats him in training camp because last season was really, really, really bad football to the likes we haven't seen in Calgary for almost 20 years.

Still have NO idea why they didn't try Stevens. He couldn't have been any worse.

Nice of the league to book the Ti-Cats the first regular season game. That way Stamps fans likely get to see Bo Levi Mitchell maybe play a quarter or two of football in his return to McMahon Stadium before getting injured for the season.

I doubt he'll play another game as a Ti-cat after that end of season press conference.

He makes a great commentator though. time to hang them up Slow-Levi! lol

Holy hell can Labour Day please just return to 2:00? What a stupid time to start the game and most likely two years in a row now I’ll skip the game after attending for like 20 years straight….

May?
The season starts WAY too early. Honestly it feels like it drags on and on now. Or ideally end it in October. I’m getting old enough to be tired of the cold football games where the performance is subject to the weather.

On another note: I wonder if this’ll be Dave’s last season as a head coach. If we have another year like this past one, with hardly any fans showing up, does he get entrusted to lead again a following season? GM Dave is so far looking to shortchange HC Dave with no competition for QB. And GM Dave let Lemon go and what did we gain from that last season? At some point you have to become a savvy GM and recognize the players you should keep when given the opportunity - as well as recognize when a player doesn’t have it you have to move on. Why sign Steven’s again when your HC clearly doesn’t trust him as a true bonafide QB?

Don’t the GM and HC talk? Lol

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday that head coach Jason Maas and general manager Danny Maciocia have signed multi-year contract extensions with the club.

Maas signed a three-year deal through the 2026 season, while Maciocia will remain in Montreal through 2027. Maciocia brought in key pieces that led the the Alouettes winning the 2023 Grey Cup, including linebacker Darnell Sankey, defensive lineman Shawn Lemon, and Grey Cup Most Outstanding Player Cody Fajardo

The Edmonton Elks are trying to sign veteran quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, per sources.

There are multiple teams interested in Bethel-Thompson’s services. The Elks have familiarity on their side because offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Jarious Jackson and run game coordinator and receivers coach Markus Howell were with him for one season in Toronto (2021).

But they already have the greatest QB in the history of the game, why do they need another QB?

If the Elks ever made Tre Ford available, I think there would be several teams interested and I hope that would include the Stamps. I see a guy getting better with each game played and with his ability to extend plays with his legs, he could be a very good QB in this league.

There would be teams available because of a lack of QBs and the belief that coaches have, usually wrong, that they can fix guys.

He is a guy that can’t read defenses, can’t make tough throws and relies far too much on his running ability.

With the low level of QB play he is probably worth it to a club with no chance to compete because as we saw with the Eskimoes he is exciting enough for the fans to ignore his lack of production wins and if you are going to win 4-6 games anyways might as well have fun doing it. But you aren’t winning a GC with him as starting QB.

Edmonton is no good. Nobody can save the Elks. Not even MBT.
