I agree, that skit was great. The Mother Knows Best game show was pretty funny as well. Kate McKinnon never fails to crack me up.
The rest of that show was pretty sub-par, but it's hard to top Donald Glover last week.

Big fan of Musgraves, solid performance. Rest of the sketches were brutal though.

Interesting piece, surprisingly published by VICE:

'SNL' Cold Opens Are Unfunny, Elitist Pieces of Liberal Propaganda

I have a few friends that are former die-hard SNL fans, and they don't really watch the show anymore because it's so predictable. Especially with all the anti-Trump late night shows, it just seems like for some there's a massive over-saturation of this, that people are losing interest.

Overall, SNL is in its #2 most-watched season in L+7 in 23 years, since “SNL” averaged 10.213 viewers for originals at this point in 1994-95, trailing over that span only last year’s election-fueled average of 10.951 million viewers.

^^ There's definitely no doubt that the formula that they're using right now is drawing a massive audience. But there are people who are getting bored with the cold-opens and even annoyed with them because they're so predictable. That's what the article is about, not the ratings.

Trump and his crazy administration are an endless well of comedy gold right now, and the jokes pretty much write themselves. We'll probably never see anything this insane again in our lifetimes. As a comedy show, how can they possibly ignore that?

I've been finding the quality over the season and even since last year, has generally been getting better. I don't think it's a coincidence that it correlated with Kyle Mooney being featured less and less.

The problem is it isn't comedy gold. Trump and his administration are so inept that it's just low-hanging fruit.
I skipped the cold open last week because it was just an excuse to bring on a bunch of celebrities making cheap jokes.
I've said it before, but Alec Baldwin sucks, as a person and as an impersonator.
I also didn't like the low blow (no pun intended) on Stormy Daniels on Update after having her on the show.
It's not just SNL either. I'm getting bored of the constant nitpicking by Seth Meyers. And there are so many political comedy shows now. I'm a big Jim Jefferies fan, but I can't watch his show because it's just more of the same. I loathe Trump, but just because he's an easy target doesn't mean they shouldn't put some effort into their "attacks". John Oliver is about the only one who's not gotten stale because he's weekly and goes after the bigger topics.

SNL has always been hit and miss. I agree that some of their political sketches this season haven't been great (the Stormy cold open from last week was lame), and Baldwin's Trump is getting a bit stale. But then you also have great stuff like Kate McKinnon's hilarious impersonations of Sessions, Mueller, and Giuliani.
Aidy Bryant's send up of Huckabee-Sanders is pretty damn funny as well.
And of course how could anyone forget this:

Spicey was outrageously funny for the first two sketches, then plummeted to tired schtick for the 3rd (has their been more?)

Yeah, his Pacino is good too. I was speaking of his Trump, not in general.

Okay, politics aside (I agree some are hit and some are miss), but some sketches are hilarious like their high school play sketches (guess it helps if you were in a high school play) and when the girls of SNL sang Back Home Ballas and Do It On My Twin Bed, I definitely laughed a lot.
Aidy Bryant and Kate are somehow filling the void of Kristin, Amy, and Tina!
Sorry if someone posted about this earlier! Agh!

Anyone else catch the John McCain rerun from 2002 last weekend? It was fantastic to see the old cast. Tina Fey killing it on WU...Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers doing obscure second half skits...and early White Stripes as the musical guest. The humour seemed a lot...edgier...too.
Senator McCain was a great sport.

He deserves it. SNL can be hit and miss a lot of the time, but if there's one thing you can always count on, it's that Kenan Thompson will make me laugh. Dude is hilarious.
