while Sophie's is our go-to, I agree that A Pizza plus was (is? I haven't had in a few years) both surprisingly good and affordable, given the nondescript store front etc

Anybody got anything in the Anderson/Macleod/90th/24th square? I am aware of Sammy's in Braeside.

Other than Sammy's, not in that direct area. Just up McLeod is Toms's House of Pizaa though.

In other news, buddy and I tried Carmine's Pizzeria on Northmount Drive the other night.they call it NY style so big pizzas (14" or 18"). I can't comment on the authenticity having never been to NY, but the pizza was good. Good crisp crust and very good sauce. Tried the Bronx and was pleasantly surprised. If you're in the NW by Thorncliff, give it a try!

I'll recommend again Wheat Pizza by Jay. Greek style thick crust. Thin crust options. Specials weekly. Good family run joint off 19th St and 20 Ave NW.

Excellent pizza. I work in the area and eat it at least once a week. It had a small dip in quality a couple years ago when ownership changed hands but the new ownership got back to the old style and it has been pretty consistent since.

Tommy's Pizza in Canyon Meadows is bomb.

Good to know, I had it in the transition period and was scared off

It's attached to the Involtini restaurant - mediocre pizza and a bad restaurant.

Well, it was good in the early 80s!

I saw somebody mention that Matador is overrated. I disagree. I think it's the best pizza in town and literally the one and only restaurant in the north worth driving up from the south for. I go a couple times a year and love it every time. Their house salad is awesome, too.

For a quick fix, I've been finding Domino's to be really good. Their thin crust pizza is delicious and their app is insane. Last week it was 50% off your order. I know we're not really talking about chain restaurants here, but it's worth trying and you should definitely get the app.

I also like Tom's. Sammy's is okay, but I don't really get the hype. I've lived in the south for 10 years now and haven't found any one-offs I like as much as Matador.

I feel the best in Calgary, but I'm sure a whole bunch of residents have that "pizza place in my neighbourhood is the best in Calgary" feeling.

It's a shame they only open at 4, with the earliest you can be eating around 4:45. I'm off around 230 each day and can't really wait til the standard dinner time to eat, so I rarely get it anymore.

Yeah my sense from reading this thread is to just avoid big chains.
