It doesn't hurt, but I don't think extending a player who is scheduled for free agency next summer puts much of any pressure on either side of the other RFA negotiations. This has essentially the same impact as a the Keller contract from last week.

Someone needs to reboot SureLoss. I could've made this thread and I found out about it like 12 minutes after it was posted on Facebook.

He's in the future breaking RFA signings, we're just waiting to catch up.

I'm not sure what you mean, Morrisey isnt a free agent next summer.

Yes, he would have been. He is playing under a contract that expires at the end of this year, and would have left him as a RFA needing a new deal. His new deal he signed today kicks in next year.

Pretty reasonable contract for the Jets.
I also like that it has a lower salary in the later years. Obviously they expect that he will continue to be a good player, but you simply never know. And that is the risk of a long term deal. But if the salary drops in later years, that makes it much easier to move him to a cap-floor team (if his play were to in fact deteriorate)

I think 31 teams would be down to sign that good of a player to this contract

Nathan MacKinnon said he would've taken Josh Morrissey first overall in his own draft year.
Helluva player, and a great contract.
