I went from the '89 Wishbook, which skewed the numbers a bit. The roller coaster is way above and beyond what the monorail ever was, which is why I picked the train as a comparable. Similar pieces/complexity. We're basically making the same point however.

My 5 year old is really really into Lego these days, as I've noted throughout this forum on our recent purchases. He has built himself a full table downstairs of his version of what the Kennedy Space Center looks like, complete with the Saturn V we built. But we haven't really bought him a set he can call his own (Saturn V, Ferrari, Bugatti..). So we were at the Lego Store in Winnipeg last week, and he saw the new Hidden Side line. Intrigued, he started asking questions to the sales girl and us. The sales girl was excellent at telling him the back story, and what it can do after you put it together, the app, etc. He was so enthralled.

I ended up caving, and getting him the flagship toy from that line, the high school. I let him decide, putting the high school, the school bus, and the shrimp shack all in front of him, and he sat there for 5-10 minutes going along each one, and then finally deciding. It came with a free Hidden Side Juice Bar, which he build all by my himself in the back of the car on the drive home.

About 30% through the build on his own, he's loving every minute of it. Constantly showing my new things about it, all the hidden things in the build etc. The only thing I've helped with are the elastic band parts. He's also made up his mind what he wants for Christmas.... lol (The school bus)

I've finished my Imperial Star Destroyer Devastator.

The build took about 20 hours, and was a lot of fun. This model is enormous, and put together much better than the 2002 version. The big armor plates were divided up, and they didn't depend on magnets and a prayer to stay together. This is a very solid, well done model.

Now I just have to find somewhere to put it...

I picked up the Jurassic Park T.rex Rampage the other day. About halfway through the build and completed the T.rex. Fantastic build so far. The attention to detail is phenomenal and they included little quirks in the design, like movable tongue and eyes, that as a Jurassic Park fanboy, make me smile.

That looks awesome, I remember the complaints of the early model was how fragile it was. Then they came out with the more kid friendly Star Destroyer with stuff inside that just didn't look great.

You're right. Though I couldn't find an official photo. Just this one from Twitter yesterday.

I love being a grandfather except when my wife goes on LEGO buying sprees. Like today - another credit-card charge over $200. Oh well, we’re one of those wealthy boomers folks here complain about.

The 89 Batmobile is available. $299. 3300 pieces. It’s 2ft long and 8” wide. Very appealing.

I...may have picked this up today. This is my favorite Batmobile, so it was on my radar. The price for pc count is pretty awesome, but what also really helped it along is that I got a 360pc mini-'89 Batmobile and a 400pc Christmas Tree (which actually has my wife excited about it) as well, for free. So got the Batmobile and $65 worth of additional LEGO free with it. Not a bad deal at all.

I finished my Batmobile. It was a very Technic-centric build, with a lot of little pieces and detailing that then got covered up by the armoring. But it was a fun build. Took around 15 hours (finished while watching the game last night!) to build. It looks pretty sharp, and my pics don't really do it justice. Got a shot of it and the smaller tag-along Batmobile.

Spoiler!

^^^ Very cool.

I love that it is compatible with mini-figs, and that it comes with a Nicholson Joker mini-fig and a Vicky Vale.
