I don't know how these guys are pulling it off.. Currently in a WC spot. I know the Yotes get a lot of hate here but is anyone pulling for them?

I'm cautiously optimistic we can make it in, but knowing Coyotes luck not holding my breath.

To even have a 1st round exit to The Flames would be pretty awesome.

if they occupy a wildcard playoff spot that would have otherwise been the Oilers....then I care a little.

I don't know that the Yotes are hated here. Of randomly hated teams (i.e. not the Canadian teams and Anaheim) I see more for the Sharks, Stars and Knights.

I want the Yotes in only because (but for the last game) the Flames seem to have their number. Plus I like their arena, if only it was airlifted somewhere else.

I'd rather face Arizona in the playoffs over Vegas TBQH. So i'm rooting for them to keep pace and Calgary and pull ahead of the pack.

Coyotes in the playoffs?

If they play the Flames in R1? Yes!

If they play the Sharks in R1? No.

I do. I hope they make the playoffs. Think it'd make a neat story.

What’s the neat story? Perennially awful team that picks top 10 every year finally makes the playoffs in a year where the western conference wild card teams can barely manage 80 point seasons?

People don’t hate the coyotes, that’s your insecurity talking. People are completely indifferent towards the coyotes.

Also, they’re for sale again.

It is actually quite impressive the job Rick Tocchet has been able to achieve with the lineup he has had.

It's good for the league when teams that have trouble drawing make the playoffs. If they can get fans back in the arena by having some success it helps to float all the boats in the NHL. Wealth redistribution is a real thing, and the better some of these poor market teams do, the less that teams like the Flames have to give away from their own dollars. It might end up helping the team pay for a new arena down the road if they can keep more of their profits.

It's astounding to me that fans of the game can be so short-sighted and hateful towards teams that just don't have the same income level to be competitive year in and year out. The Coyotes are basically the Oakland A's of the NHL. They have to be inventive with their limited budget to even be relevant in any given year. Add to that, they've lost a ton of games to injury with key players, and I think it's a great story of a plucky team that has found a way to win in spite of it all. Rick Tocchet should get a lot of votes for coach of the year looking at that situation. Their top scorer has 44 points. That would put Keller 6th on the Flames roster, just one point of 7th place Mikael Backlund. If Backlund was our top scorer, there's no way we'd be in a playoff spot right now.

And before anyone starts yapping about moving the team, save it. After Seattle's expansion market, there are few markets that would support an NHL team any better than Arizona could.

Arizona making the playoffs means one less spot for the Oilers, Minnesota, and Colorado to try and make the playoffs, frustrating their fan bases and prompting some big roster moves/rebuilds.

Count me in!

Plus I always love to see different teams in the playoffs.

Personally I don't care one way or the other if the Yotes make it. I guess It would be great for Bouw N Arrow and the other 38 Coyote fans on the planet.

Except that the Coyotes have made the playoffs before, many times, including in each of their first four seasons. This did not lead to anyone showing up to watch their games. Much of greater Phoenix appears totally unaware that they have a professional hockey team - probably because of the arena's location. I really think this is a situation where we it's just not going to get any better than it has been for the past two decades. Maybe you get a brief surge of popularity if they do something like what they did in 2012, but it'll just die down again.

Of course, the same can be said for the Panthers (only arguably more so), so I guess you guys are kindred spirits on this front.

Affordable playoff tickets for Flames fans if they make it.

So I’m all for it.

Arizona is also 6 points back of Vegas, even in games played, and have one head-to-head matchup to go. Unlikely, but possible.

Over the Oilers yes...let's not forget though this is a historically bad wild card race. In a normal year they would be long since out.

Flames had 84 points last year in a season considered an absolute disaster that brought major changes

300 isn't a huge deal. It would put a team around 10th in the league most years.
