Show needs more in depth stories centered around Mercer at this point he's almost a side character.
I think those are actually the biggest weakness of the show. Macfarlane is a very good actor, but not great by any means. As a side character in the role of captain he's great, because its quite comedic and light. When he's in the lead role he tries too hard to go full Picard, and he just doesn't have the chops to do it.
Ya, I'm pretty done with the Moclins. Don't need another Bortisode or one focused on their weird stuff. Bortis with a moustache was a nice side joke, and about all I need to see of them.
Holy crap, this episode really was spectacularly good
Spoiler!
I don't know why but I had a feeling since last year in the first episode that Isaac would end up betraying everything, when they introduced his face as incredibly xenophobic.
Gordon singing was excellent, as was the cake scene and Isaac pulling up a oscar speech by Sally Field.
Sometimes when your trying to make peace you can be far too trusting. The ultimate betrayal was Mercer going to Isaac for answers.
That scene with crew members getting killed brutally was made even more awesome by the music, and the Orville just knocks it out of the park when it comes to using music to set scenes.
I loved the explanation, our planet is at its limit for data capacity so we need to expand.
So the other thing that was kind of tugging at my brain for a while now was how much Kaylon sounds like Cylon, and now it turns out that the Kaylon's have a shared story with the original 70's Cylons.
The original Cylons were created by lizard like creatures, but eventually their mechanical warriors surpassed their masters and exterminated them, then they made their leadership or Imperious leaders in the forms of their old masters.
The acting in this episode was just exceptional and the effects looked awesome, that last scene with the fleet departing for earth looked awesome.
They've kind of backed off on a lot of the humor this year, but have little shots in the show to remind you that its still there. But Scott Grimes facial expression when they saw the bodies was so perfect to the rest of the show.
We got what we wanted tonight, they teased us with another emotional character study, then with 20 minutes to go ripped our hearts out and freaked us out.
I know its likely that Isaac will eventually turn on the Kaylons, but at the moment he's responsible with a bunch of crew deaths.
BTW they did a nice bit of subterfuge during the killing, when the one crew members who looked like John from a distance got shot.
They literally pulled a Buffy here. In the 2nd season they teased us with a Spike and Dru big bad only to turn Angel evil. They did it again in Season 6 when they teased the nerds as the villains only to have Willow turn completely evil.
So good.

The episode after next weeks part two is called Blood of the Patriot, and the description is that Ed negotiates a peace treaty with the Krill.
Now remember that this season is 14 episodes long.
So what if this Kaylon/Biologics war is the rest of the season arc, and as the Kaylon's continue their invasion it causes a desparate union treaty with the Krill?

I have my doubts, this isn't a Picard character where there's a bit of humanity left in him. Isaac never had any humanity, We got hints of that when he started dating Claire and everything that he seemed to do was to elicit a negative response.
Also and in a brutal way, we saw a lot of deaths on the Orville, and a lot of bodies overall, the Death's on the Orville are on Isaac, he can never be forgiven for that.
Beyond that a machine that so easily betrays humanity can never be trusted again, even. Because he's a machine, not driven by emotions and mistakes, but by calculation and algorithms.
Bottom line though and I was thinking of this. I know from a show making standpoint making Isaac with blue eyes makes him easily recognizable. But what if Primary isn't Primary, but Isaac is?

I do really like that they made an android far more interesting, funny, and compelling story wise than TNG did with Data. Isaac >>>> Data.
Its funny, because Data was the story of Pinocchio, a wooden doll that wants to be a boy. Data aspired to be human. They intentionally created a makeup scheme to allow him facial expression
Spoiler!
Isaac never aspired to humanity, what makes him evil is that he was there to cause responses and report on them to frame the humans as incompatible.
Isaace doesn't aspire to humanity because its not in his programming. If you look at his code
10 study humanity in all situations
20 observe humans at their best and more importantly at their worst
30 If not enough data create scenarios goto 10
50 If enough data go to goto 100
60 rem *written by Bill Gates*
100 If Kaylon = superior go to 500
110 if Kaylon <> Superior go to 600
500 Erradicate and take their planet
600 refuse entry into the Earth organization, evolve
