Oh I dunno if the 2018/2019 season is too far back, but the Calgary Flames were the THIRD BEST face off team in THE LEAGUE.

Awesome result! This team can definitely take care of business against lower echelon teams. Now if we could just see more of this level of effort & skill against better teams...

I started watching at the center ice faceoff when Helm dumped Lindholm.

Was surprised the broadcast crew pays attention starting mid engagement, as it was right off the draw at centre

There’s this video from Sportsnet that shows everything starting with the stuff at centre ice, but in that whole video you don’t really get a clear view of the elbow. The more overhead view makes it look like Lindholm might not get Helm in the head at all, but it’s just so damn far away.

I don't really think it matters whether Lindholm connected on the elbow. The attempt was pretty blatant and I think he's deservedly receiving most of the blame. If a Red Wing tried to elbow one of our guys like that, I'd want to give the guy a solid slash too.

Hope Lindholm is ok though. He's been so good for us and is key to our offense.

The slew foot on the faceoff is where it all started...the ref could have done his job but the Flames were up 4-1 at the time so why make a call and prevent the incident

I think it matters when I can’t get a good read on either his intent or the result of his actions from the angles I’ve seen. I’m not saying he doesn’t share blame, I’m only saying I can’t tell how egregious it was while looking down from the rafters of the dome.

The slash seems much more obvious to me.

That was a Kessler-level flop from Helm followed by a McSorely-level two-hander to the back of Lindholm’s knee... after Helm started the whole thing with a slew foot on Lindholm off the faceoff.

He’s lucky Looch wasn’t on the ice during that whole sequence.

Yes, intent matters and it's difficult to get a read, but again, whether or not the elbow landed does not matter. If a player clearly intended to elbow someone and missed, is he off the hook? I don't think so. Maybe we can say we're not sure if Lindholm intended to elbow Helm. Seems like other corners of the internet think it was intentional, and if it was, he deserves the blame.

I also agree Helm shares the blame for the slewfoot.

Finally, I'm not blaming Lindholm for taking matters into his own hands. I hated how we used to just whine to the refs every time something happened. I give the benefit of the doubt to Lindholm and say he was only trying to throw a big hit and got a bit carried away with the elbow. I don't mind that.

Why rely on the refs? I would liked to see Lindholm slewfoot Helm right back. Or have Looch give him a two hander. We can't be pushed around like that and whine to the refs all the time.

I don't mind that Lindholm tried to make a big hit. But then I can't also blame Helm for retaliating.

Edit: glad to see Lindholm is ok.

Flames were certainly not pushed around tonight

No they were not, and I'm happy to see that. Good for Lindholm. Good for Looch.

That Lindholm/Helm thing is another example of why CP and Reddit are the places for normal hockey fans, and HF is just trolls and children

Reddit: Wow, both players were dumb there.

HF: 3 pages of trolls arguing back and forth over wether the elbow or the slash was worse

Here's a better look at the Lindholm/Helm faceoff play.

Looks like more of a dirty pitchfork than a slewfoot technically, but clearly what set Lindholm off.

I think part of it is that Monahan and Jankowski are constantly ragged on for their faceoff abilities on here, even though they were both over 50%

I didn't see the game last night, was listening to the radio and it sounded like Lindholm got cut down by a flaming two handing axe. Looking at the replay, that was a pretty light slash honestly, Helm didn't hit him hard at all. Lindy went down pretty hard there looking to draw the penalty, which he did.

I honestly thought he had extra padding or funny shoulder pads or something.
