Default Windows XP reinstall - Partitioned Hard Drive

I'm looking to re-install windows XP on a clean hard drive. I haven't done it for years, and I can't remember - will my current partitioned C: drive get unpartitioned after formatting it? I have a bunch of files on my partitioned drive (D that I don't know if I should backup to a DVD or not.

Thoughts?

No, it won't format the complete hdd, just the partition that you indicate it to format. Unless you go and delete all the partition's on the hdd.

That's the way I run my system, O/S and ProgramFiles on the C drive, everything else on D, E , and F. And the only reason for multiple partitions is for DVD burning; some of my programs like moving stuff between drive letters.

XP Professional will give you the option of installing on any current partition. I've heard XP Home won't give you the option and will happily overwrite all partition information. but I could be wrong about Home.

Just double check everything before you let setup go ahead and do it's thing. It's relatively clear about what you are going to do, so I wouldn't stress out about it.
