Default Typing too fast for Dell laptop to keep up

A friend asked if I knew a solution to this problem. She has a Dell laptop and is a very good typist. She says that she types so fast that her laptop keystrokes tend to lag behind her typing and she has to stop to let it catch up. Is there an adjustment that can speed up the computer's recognition of her keystrokes?

As a poor typist I can't really relate to this but she/I would appreciate if someone has a solution for this problem. Thanks.

Is this in a certain program or across the board?

Is it a relatively new laptop?

As per yellers suggestion,
Tell her to try shutting down all programs and typing in a program like notepad and seeing if it does the same thing. It sounds like a case of someone doing thirty other tasks while typing really fast in a more bloated program like MS Word on an underpowered machine.

It's a relatively new laptop and it's happening across the board, but definitely as she types email messages in Outlook, also in Word. I'll suggest she tries what Phaneuf3 has suggested, meanwhile any other advice is appreciated.

I have the same problem on my older Acer laptop.

I don't have to have a lot of programs up, but 3 or 4 up with me typing fast is enough to have to wait contantly for the screen-text to catch up. It is especially annoying when you think you have mistyped but aren't sure until it catches up to that point.

I have just learned to deal with it though?

I had this problem with my old Toshiba notebook. Had to kill the program that controlled the extra function keys since it was delaying everything I typed by a second.

A software update fixed the problem for me. I'd suggest looking at any of the extra "Dell" software that enables those shortcut keys to work or adds extra functions to existing keys.

Knowing the model, CPU speed, amount of RAM, and operating system would be helpful to troubleshoot. Is this a recent issue or has it been since the machine's been in use?

Today I looked at this lady's computer and the problem seems to be that her computer is running a virus scan at the same time that she's trying to do something else. Another friend who is a computer guy was here when my friend dropped in and he looked at her computer and confirmed this for us. Thanks for the advice, all.

You can however adjust the speed at which the keys on your keyboard go up and down. I too am a very fast typer and have this problem all the time and it has nothing to do with other programs running on my computer.

Go into your control panel, keyboards, and then select the speed function.

You want the delay to be the shortest possible and the repeat the fastest possible.
