Default SIM Card Question

Anyone know if I can just go to fido and get a SIM card? I have a phone I want to switch to but I was on telus and want to switch to fido but obviously I need a SIM card.

Thanks.

Should be able to get one at any Fido dealer I would imagine. (We don't have Fido out here so I could be mistaken, but I know Rogers dealers will just sell you the SIM card).

That said, will your Telus phone take a SIM? Telus doesn't use a GSM system so it might not. If it does, is the phone unlocked so you can transfer it to other carriers?

Fido will sell you just a SIM card, but a Telus phone won't work on Fido or Rogers unfortunately for the reason Maritime Q-Scout said; Rogers/Fido use GSM and Telus uses CDMA, different ways of communicating.

Yes, Rogers/Fido will let you buy a sim card and you can either get them to activate it there or u can just get the package and activate it at home. If you do that, you will be automatically be on prepaid minutes, so you have to add when you run out.

Ah ok, wasn't sure. Yeah you're good to go then. You can check on craigslist and you might save a few $$ on a SIM card.

My next question would be, is the phone locked to Telus' towers? If you were to buy a Rogers phone and put a Fido SIM card in it, it won't work, and vice-versa. The AT&T iPhone is the same way. You need to unlock the phone or have it unlocked.

Your best bet would be to ask the rep to try one of the store SIM cards in the phone first to make certain you don't get a SIM home and have it be a waste of money.

it comes out to something like $36 with tax for a sim card from fido. I think the price just went up at the beginning of may.
