Meh, Zamler’s body of work on CP speaks for itself. If he wants to leave with a goodbye post, so be it. He’s earned it.
Besides, this website should be about having fun, but if it’s not fun anymore then that’s a good reason to leave or take a break. Hopefully people try to keep that in mind.

I've had conversations with some other long, long time posters here they've expressed similar sentiments. I can't put my finger on it, but CP is not what it used to be. I definitely understand that people see these threads as posters looking for attention, but I do wonder about the underlying cause. I think that we've lost a lot of long-time posters over the past year or two and that's a real shame.
We have all gotten old. We may be what has changed, not CP.

Yep - and social media has helped people stay in their bubbles. CP is an old school platform with no algorithm so you might hear stuff here you don't hear elsewhere because it isn't hidden from you. My twitter feed isn't showing me justaguy covid posts. If that drives me batty just seeing that - I can see being annoyed.

This place is not fun anymore at least for me a small minority who are so sure of themselves ruin the entire experience. Maybe I'll be back after the Flames win the Cup maybe not but for now I'm out.
Peace to all the great people here.
For what it's worth, I do understand and sympathize with your sentiment. It's only my true passion for the Flames that still keeps me here. Also, for what it's worth, I am 100% sure you will be back.
Will sure miss Yanet. Be well.

I posted less this season than in many prior years, because I kind of felt the same way. Let's call it CP fatigue. But lately I've sort of trained myself to tune things out that might bother me and have let myself engage more during the playoffs. Unfortunately CP is not really immune to similar toxicity that exists all over the internet now.
My advice is just don't take it too seriously, and if you want a breather or discontinue use, do it. Life doesn't revolve around CP and you don't need a message board to be a Flames fan and to enjoy what they are doing right now, on your own terms.

Breaks are definitely a good thing when you're not having any fun, even if announcing it IS cringey (I know the inclination to do so is less about "I'm leaving" and more about "YOU did this," I get it).
I think the best thing anyone can do is evaluate how seriously they take interactions on here, and then start taking them less seriously than that. If you can't handle ribbing/exchanging barbs, don't like making an ass of yourself, or find yourself wondering what the problem is with everyone else, it's probably time to take a lap, go touch some grass, and come back when you can have some fun.

I'd love to even know what the issue is. Is it OT where a select few are "ruining" things? Is it the actual hockey talk section? I'm not seeing any issues.
I mean, do we really want to go back to the good ole' days with You Love You Lose jack-off thread, calling each other r*tard, making homophobic comments, etc.? There's no way this site hasn't evolved in a positive way.

I took around a year away also. Just too many toxic interactions with a small number of regular posters at the time. It was for the best.
The mods were helpful enough to give me a three month ban when I requested it at the time, which helped to get it started. You might consider the same.
Hoping all is well and you enjoy the time you'll add back into your life without CP.
On a side note, while rule number 2 in the forum rules should ideally be enough for everything, I find it kind of funny that many of the most contentious topics are around politics or the like in OT and forum rule number 5 just reads as
Quote:
5. Race, Gender, Sexual Preference, Religion, Political Views
With no actual guidance on those things.

Familiarity breeds contempt. It’s all old ass posters that have been around forever who are consistent contributors. Check the GDT first page and the most recent poster is a 2016 join date. No new blood, old guys are cranky, and it’s a scary changing new world out there.
So long zalmer and good luck out there buddy. You’ll be back, they always come back, but the thread is fun and that’s what OT is for: fun.
