Outside of him there are some legitimate top line players in this draft, especially at the RW. Alexander Holtz and Lucas Raymond are both right shot wingers who are capable of being scorers in the NHL. Holtz is the better scorer, Raymond the better all-round player, you get either one you're laughing.

Treliving and the Flames need to seriously look at what they're doing this season. If they're still just hovering around a playoff spot in December it's time to ship out Brodie and Hamonic for futures. Then don't be afraid to shake up the forward ranks big time in the off season.

And for Flames fans stuck in Northern Alberta like myself, there's a couple very interesting players playing for the Sherwood Park Crusaders, Carter Savoie and Michael Benning. Both undersized, but both from talented hockey families and both are putting up serious points.

Neither is ranked that highly, but if Savoie keeps up his 2 points/game pace I can't see him not going in the 1st. The WJAC is in Dawson Creek BC this year and these two might be able to get their names on the map like Cale Makar did in a big way when he was at the tournament.

The only way to pick up an extra lottery eligible first in this draft would be to trade with a potential wild card team, and hope the worst for them. By the time the deadline rolls around, firsts higher than 20 will be off the table.

There could actually be some interesting movement before Christmas this year.

I think due to the lottery we are going to see it more like the nba with lottery picks being protected, or even trades with a top 5 pick protected

If a team chasing a playoff spot that may miss doesnt have one I'd be pretty shocked

Hoping the Flames take a flyer on a late blooming player from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, he was eligible for last years draft but went unselected.

He is breaking out this year though in a big way.

2001 born RHD Alex Cotton, he's 6'2 and 190lbs. Good skater, and very offensively gifted. After putting up 11 points in 54 games last year as a 17 year old rookie, he's busted out in his sophomore 18 year old season and is leading all WHL Dmen in scoring with 33 points in 31 games so far this season.

Bumping this thread.

The first round of this draft is so stacked, it's ridiculous.

Top 5 Centers:
Byfield
Stuztle
Rossi
Lundell
Perfetti

HMs: Bourque, Zary, Perreault

Top 5 Wingers
Lafreniere
Raymond
Holtz
Gunler
Mercer

HM: Amirov, Holloway

Top 5 D:
Drysdale
Poirier
Cormier
Barron
Niamela

Top G's:
Askarov
Akhtyamov
Clang

Summary: The Flames need to desperately draft a forward in the first round. The first round is stacked of great forwards, and honestly, we could really use a top end center or RW. But if we are left with a top end LW, you draft that too.

Are there any of these players that have drawn your interest and/or a player that you really want the Flames to draft?

Holtz and Lundell are slipping in rankings last I checked. Perfect opportunity for the Flames to nab a great player if they miss the post season.

And FFF. Dream draft for the Flames would be one of Byfireld, Lundell, Holtz, Perfetti. Holtz #1 on my list.

Interesting that Marco Rossi actually has a higher PPGA in the OHL than Lafreniere has in the QMJHL. If Rossi wasn't 5'7 he might challenge Lafreniere for that #1 spot. Those numbers are insane for a draft eligible.

Rossi - 5'7 www.eliteprospects.com/player/293179/marco-rossi
30G - 61A - 91P in 41GP

Lafreniere - 6'1 http://www.eliteprospects.com/player...xis-lafreniere
25G - 62A - 87P in 40GP

Rossi will probably drop like all of the other small players that have in the past. If he drops to us, I would not hesitate to pick him up. Dude's a player.

Hell, if he drops at all, I would consider moving up to get him. Those are Patrick Kane numbers coming into the draft.

Kinda interesting stat-Rossi leads the OHL in scoring, but also plus/minus, at plus-56. The next highest +/- is +44.

He's listed at 5'9" fwiw.

Some guys a little further down the draft board.

As the deadline nears, these are the guys you throw away for a "late round pick" or consequently can get as a throw in:

Jack Finley big center in the WHL, nearly a point per game, nearly 2021 eligible

Carson Bantle big lw in the USHL, leads his awful team in scoring, nearly a point per game

Brandon Coe big rw in the OHL, had a good showing at the top prospects game

Tyson Foerster center in the OHL, putting up huge scoring numbers on a very bad Barrie Colts team, almost twice as any points as his next teammate that has played the whole season

These guys won't help a team next year but there's a decent chance one of them could be adding some depth and impact to a bottom six somewhere before 2023.

if the Flames trade their 1st or 2nd this year for a rental, i'd be pretty pissed...

if its a youngish, top 6 player you can resign, you can make a argument for it, but please, not a rental

Highly unlikely but I just wish Calgary would take the highest 2020 picks they could get for Brodie & Hamonic.

As I've mentioned before, this is said to be the best NHL Entry Draft since 2003, when guys like Zach Parise 17th, Ryan Getzlaf 18th, Brent Burns 20th, Mike Richards 24th, Corey Perry 28th were being taken late in the 1st round and players such the following were still available in the 2nd, Loui Eriksson 33rd, Patrice Bergeron 45th, Matt Carle 47th, Shea Weber 49th, Corey Crawford 52nd, David Backes 62nd, Jimmy Howard 64th.

Flames 2022-23 could have these early 2020 picks playing full time by then, plus whatever assets Calgary will receive from Gaudreau or Giordano...

Tkachuk - Lindholm - ______
Mangiapane - Monahan - ______
Pelletier - Backlund - Dubé

Välimäki - Andersson
Hanifin - ______
Lerby - Kylington
Yelesin

Parsons
Zagidulin
Wolf

Kent Johnson put up similar numbers to Tyson Jost (10th overall) in the same league and went undrafted. Scored a beauty last night and has 10 points in 9 games for Michigan in the Big-10. Definitely going to be on some teams radar.

Johnson wasn't eligible for the 2020 draft. He missed cutoff by about a month.

He is, however, a top prospect for the 2021 draft.

Which is a great transition into a 2021 thread, with our new NHL Draft ranking at FC, just released a few days ago:
